FILECOIN : 🚀One of the most promising ICO of the year🚀
Firstly, why I think this is the one of the most promising ICO of the year:
- It is one of the first ICOs under the strict regulations recently approved by the United States.
- The company that will develop the project has already raised $ 52 million in a pre-ICO investor round.
- The celebrated Winklevoss brothers have already invested in the project.
- Virtually anyone will be able to mine the project's cryptourrency. Mining a cryptocoin = creating money from home.
- The mining will be more environmentally friendly because it will require less energy than other cryptocurrencies.
- It is a Blockchain application to a real problem. Critics often argue that Blockchain is "a solution looking for a problem". In the case of Filecoin they can not say that.
The project:
Filecoin will be a distributed data storage system in which miners will provide the unused space of their equipment to satisfy Filecoin's "customers" storage requests.
What is the disruptive idea?
In Filecoin the price of storage will be driven by supply and demand, not by corporate pricing departments, and miners will compete on factors such as reputation for reliability and price. In this way, customers who need to store their data will have a very personalized offer and cheaper price.
When does the ICO start?
The next 7 of August.

Would be interesting to hear your analyze on what makes this cryptocurrency better in the current systems like StoreJ that already has a project running with many nodes.
Well, I did not say that this cryptocurrency is better or worse than any other cryptocurrency... I only think it could be a profitable ICO.

Thanks but don't we need to compare filecoin to either or all of maidsafe, siacoin, and storj?
To my mind, the comparison should be with Microsoft, Dropbox, Google... Filecoin, Storj, Siacoin aren't competitors yet because they have a common goal: the massive adoption of decentralized systems and cryptocurrencies.

Please clarify why you would compare with 3 centralized solutions? My understanding of the others (Sia, Filecoin etc.) is that they break down the file and distribute segments of it across a decentralized storage community, Google et al merely distribute a full copy of your file across their global servers which simply provides some redundancy. Right now I don't see any big differentiators, other than Filecoin is still just an idea, the others at least have some form of working version. That being said thanks for your perspective.

In what ways will this be better than or different than Storj? Good write up btw.
