Don't be like me! Save your recovery keys
The story begins with my broken phone. I gave it for repairs and I was informed that all data will be lost. I thought that I don't have any information that was crucial on my phone. I was wrong... I was terribly wrong... I forgot about Google Authenticator. I got my phone back with new OS installed and everything wiped out. Somehow I had to disable 2FA logins to get access to my accounts.
GateHub
Recovery started from GateHub. Actually I don't use GateHub often. It was discovery for me that I have 1200 XRP from 2015 in my GateHub wallet. To recover GateHub account I needed to submit a support ticket. After 2 minutes (yes, it is 2 minutes not 2 hours) I got a reply. To turn off 2FA I just needed to send a selfie. Selfie must display my face, a piece of paper with a message "GateHub 2FA" and current date and my ID or passport. After a few hours 2FA was disabled. GateHub support 5 stars of 5.
Minergate
Then it was time to disable 2FA to Minergate account as I was not able to login on my phone. Again had to submit support ticket. It took a while to get a reply. I had to provide information about my account activity, such as some of the hashes of my previous transactions, the approximate balances of the most mined currencies or some other information that would help them to identify me. Again 2 FA was disabled. Minergate support 4/5.
Poloniex
And here comes Poloniex. I loved that in FAQ I found the answer that if I have 16 digit recovery key I have to setup 2 Fa manually. But I don't have 16 digit recovery key. Poloniex FAQ states "If you do not have a backup of your 16 digit key, please open a support ticket at Poloniex Support for assistance". Ok let's open a support ticket. "Login or Signup to submit a new ticket" Wait! What? I want to open a ticket because I can't login and you telling me to login to open a ticket. Poloniex you are genius! Poloniex support in advance 1/5. I will try to figure it out what to do to disable 2FA on Poloniex.
Happy Steeming!
Good info. Thanks
Hi @zapasx i am happy that you are addressing this issue many time i was thinking what will happen if i loose or some one stole my phone as most of my important internet site have the 2FA enable. So now after reading your post i can get an idea of what to do and it is kind of Pain in the .ss Thank you i follow you for more
Thank You! I appreciate that :)
Update: Poloniex has different accounts for support. To disable 2FA just need to fill the form.
I've opened a support ticket for poloniex too. After them contacting me and asking me for some information. That I provided they have since completely ignored my message and it's just saying in process. I cannot get into my account at all. It asks for 2fa code when I have not enabled 2fa on my account. I've asked them to disable the 2fa and they just keep ignoring me. I'm getting really worried now. Can you update us as to how you are getting on please.
They were asking shit loads of questions in support ticket but later they asked for a code sent by email, when I provided it they disabled 2fa
