How you can protect yourself from being phished

A LOOK AT STEEMED PHISH

Phishing is the act of trying to obtain sensitive information, such as usernames, passwords, credit card info, etc. This is usually done for malicious reasons.

Such websites would often be cloaked as genuine websites, solely for the purpose of stealing one's information.

Steemit has not been an exception to this, and there have been several cases of users falling victims to this.

In most cases, they were unable to get back their accounts, losing months, and even years worth of work, and also followers gathered over the years.

To nip the bud, a little handy tool has been developed by The Little Farm to assist users in identifying such sites.

The mechanism they employ is really simple.

Steemit related websites are validated using the following colours:

  • Blacklisted sites: Background of the website turns to red(see image above)

  • Friendly/recognised sites: Background of the website is green.

  • Unrecognised sites: Background is grey.

The tool is free, and I believe it will go a long way in keeping us safe.
