2 GB RX 550s Hash Better than 4 GB Ones?

AMD RX 550 4 GB VS NVIDIA GTX 1030 3 GB

AMD RX 500 series cards mine CryptoNote currencies really well. My 4 GB RX 550s hash almost as well as my NVIDIA GTX 1030 3 GB cards (~ 330 H/s VS ~ 450 H/s).

  • It's 73% as good according to my numbers
  • It's less than half the price
  • It doesn't require 6 pin PCIe power
  • It uses less power

I've always preferred to get the 4 GB RX 550s rather than the 2 GB versions because they're more versatile. If I wanted to mine Ethereum (the most profitable coin to mine according to whattomine.com), the 2 GB+ DAG file would pose no problem.

2 > 4?

However, it looks like 2 GB RX 550's may have higher hash rates than 4 GB ones!? I just bought one to test this out. What do you think? Look at the numbers at Monero Benchmarks and see for yourself. This guy on Steemit is getting 430-440 H/s out of his 2 GB RX 550!

For CryptoNote currencies like Monero, Aeon and Electroneum, a 2 GB graphics card may be the better, and of course cheaper option. If you want to join the experiment, here's a 2 GB Gigabyte RX 550 sold by Amazon for $99.99.

I think I just wrote Gigabyte Gigabyte and it feels strange.
