There are two eco-socialist parties in Wales, but only one has the vision of an independent Wales.
Congratulations on joining Plaid Cymru, @GrenvilleHam.
I can’t join you in the party sorry, imho modern politics is broken, but I’m shoulder to shoulder with you for an #IndyWales

@DemocracyEarth and @AragonProject are building some visionary decentralised ‘liquid democracy’ platforms.
I’d love Wales to start experimenting with this stuff, we’re decentralised and anti-establishment by nature here.

Bye EOS. It's you not me just so you know. I have been a supporter of EOS for a long time and have often defended them but I unstaked and sold my whole position today. The unstaking takes 3 days which is ridiculous but it's done. I finally decided the governance issues are simply too much. This is not just centralized but it's centralized by people attempting to disguise this fact which is even worse IMO. Over and over we have seen that a very small number of people/entities control the platform. If that was the vision and it was stated that way then fine but don't try to trick everyone and pretend it's a platform governed by the people because that's clearly not the case. It's been a fun ride but I am out.

      Randy Hilarski
I got out last month on that small run. I don't care if people defend it saying that it is still early. I have to admit I got a ton of airdrops. Hopefully a few have value in the future.

      Jason Cohen
Same man. I waited several months and never saw any positive changes and only more bs. I was also hopeful on the airdrops but they are worth nothing really so it was my time to bail.

      Chad Simpson
Last week there were a couple of days where I didn't shower because I was playing pixelmaster.io with an obsession I normally reserve for PUBG or DOTA. I pulled 100 EOS out at the end and had a blast in Telegram with the other 'artists'. I'm not sure what platforms you guys are using that has this level of Dapp adoption (1000 unique players in 24hrs and a million EOS transacted) but I understand your concerns about the DPOS consensus. Brenden Blumer has went on record that block.one will use their 10% stake to bust collusion in early days. That to me is enough for now. Sorry to see you go.

To put it further into perspective, a few days ago I was invited into a conference call with EOSAsia, a block producer, to discuss a Dapp idea I had. Why was I invited into the call? Because I logged into their Telegram and said "Hey, I have a Dapp idea, check out my wireframe". That same idea I floated to Dan Larimer and within 24hrs he responded with feedback. These are the things that give me confidence in EOS.

I think people are noticing the blemishes on EOS because it's one of the few chains with its face toward the sun. When you trade in hype and speculation, reality is your worst enemy. I'm looking forward to when fundamentals finally take the wheel. Blockchain isn't perfect folks. DPoS isn't perfect. Governance, consensus, economics, all are still being worked out. You want perfect decentralization, keep chasing whitepapers.

      Daniel Missing
Closet thing to decentralisation of Blockchain is prob Tezos and Bitcoin.
And prob one the best coded

Tezos supply Of top 100 wallets is like 20-30%
Eth about 35%
Ada 40%
IOTA about 60%
Neo 65ish%
QTUM 70%
EOS 75% (50% by top 10 wallets)
Ripple 70-80%
Stellar 90%

I’d hate to find out Hedera Hashgraph stats, with its patent non open source tech

      Milan Gowin
Exactly. Tezos is everything that Cardano wants to be but live already. Furthermore very decentralized already.

Zubair Akhtar Chaudhry
yes in addition to being far more liquid than EOS, it is being more actively developed. Eth is here to stay folks. Load the boat!

Now that margin trading on Poloniex is being shut down, what are my options for margin trading being based in the US? Besides move which is being considered more every day.

      Joe Ross
Kraken if you want to be on the up and up, Bitfinex or Bitmex if you don't mind using a VPN.

      Mark Hunkler
I didn’t know kraken did margin. I hate their website it’s so terrible.

      Joe Ross
It's pretty bad. I've never traded on kraken at all, but I know they offer margin.

Saad Zafar
Day trading or hold?
Ur preference?

      Seth McGathey
Not necessarily “day trade”, but trade over hold for sure.

      Saad Zafar
Care to elaborate .... eh ?

      Seth McGathey
well day trade often means you are making a bunch of small trades in a single day. I am a bigger fan of swing trading. Where you are making targeted trades.

But overall, if you know what you are doing, you can make a lot more money trading than holding. But it takes a lot of education, practice, and patience. I am only just starting to get decent at it after more than a year. And from many it sounds like that is actually a short amount of time, it takes many even longer.

      John Lewison
I hold a few in decent quantity and day trade a small portion to build up my portfolio.

      Kéllo Tron
Hold & Scalp upon 5x gains.. Rinse & repeat.

      Ali Mestassi
It depends on the coin.. some coins are good for hodling others for day trading..

      Saad Zafar
Which coins are good for hodlin nd for day trading in ur opinion

      Ali Mestassi
in general and this is just my opinion not a financial advice, high market cap coins are good for long term while some very good icos are very good for day trading.. The price chart will confirm that to a certain degree.. we're never sure 100%.. It's a risky business..

      Jeremy Swyers
I started off day trading but after a few months it was consuming way too much of my time. Now I just HODL. I'm really glad I learned the indicators trading though.

      Len Gray
Been HODL situation, thinking off trading without leverage.Trading is not for everyone, you only hear about the wins. But the truth is ,many are wiped out.I have my young son trading ,trading 3 different accounts at the same time.Sure in the bull market, all you hear about is Lambos and Hoes. Not so easy when the market is dropping turds all day long.

Top five cryptocurrency stories of the day in five sentences or less (Around the Block - 10/4/2018)

  1. Abra Launches first cryptocurrency index for retail investors

The Bitwise 10 Crypto Index Token (Bit10) tracks the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization and is rebalanced monthly. Investors can purchase the token, which is built on bitcoin, to essentially invest in all 10 cryptocurrencies at once. This grants retail investors access to "nearly 80 percent of the cryptocurrency market" at once.

  1. Cryptocurrency company makes massive sponsorship for the British Masters

LIFElabs, a philanthropy-focused cryptocurrency startup hoping to invest in “the future of humanity”, joined Adidas, TaylorMade and Ladbrokers to sponsor the Sky Sports British Masters golf competition next week. The startup will hold a contest on the ninth hole for participants: the first player to hit a hole-in-one will win £10,000, with a further £10,000 being split between Cancer Research UK, a research and awareness charity, and the European Tour Foundation.

  1. Galaxy Digital, Aspect Ventures, Blockchange Ventures, Boost.VC, Canaan Venture Partners, Floodgate Fund, Hack.VC, Neo Global Capital and Signia Venture Partners invest in Ethereum Scaling Startup

In an effort to develop a blockchain scalability infrastructure for ethereum, Blockchain startup Skale Labs has raised nearly $10 million. Skale intends to launch the first implementation of the Ethereum Virtual Machine on a Plasma chain – a move it says would help dapp developers by giving them a layer-2 platform on which to execute smart contracts. Using Skale's network will enable dapps to conduct "millions of transactions per second at a fraction of the cost of what's possible today," the release claims. The startup plans to set its testnet live by the end of 2018 and activate its mainnet in the upcoming year.

  1. Dogecoin creator calls out Bitcoin for being centralized at crypto conference

Jackson Palmer, creator of Dogecoin, recently called out the Bitcoin Core team for the "centralized way" in which they fixed the recently discovered bug in bitcoin's code, which involved coordinating with bitcoin miners behind closed doors. Palmer also said there is a "complete lack of transparency" about who manages the Bitcoin Core code base, and that he believes the whole bitcoin ecosystem suffers from a lack of diversity regarding both programming languages and implementations.

"A lot of people in the space are afraid to reflect on bitcoin," Palmer told CoinDesk, questioning why retail adoption is still a rarity. "If bitcoin was a startup, it would be dead. It hasn't reached product-market fit."

  1. Crypto Exchange Poloniex Removes Margin and Lending Products for US Users

Poloniex, acquired by Circle for $400 million earlier this year, will remove its margin and lending products for U.S.-based customers by the end of this year. Poloniex explains that the move has been taken to ensure the exchange complies with regulatory requirements in every jurisdiction.

Joe Blackburn
Let’s have some insightful fun CCT.

I will list a few basic bullet points for the market and for crypto. I encourage you to comment with some of your own that you think are relative to crypto and show optimism in the market.

Bitcoin didn’t fall under $6k for longer than a few hours and has bounced off $6k several times now.

The Winklevoss ETF was delayed once again, that means they didn’t say no, again.
Crypto has never had more mainstream attention.

Major news outlets have quit bashing BTC on the same level they were a couple months ago, (yes I know they are simply waiting to pounce if BTC were to fall below $6k.

https://cryptocointrader.com will be launching in the next 60 days.

ICO’s and existing Blockchain projects are being held to a higher standard. Expectations are pushing these projects to be transparent, real and profitable. This standard will pay dividends significantly as TrashCan-wouldbe -wannabe be companies, don’t get funded or are simply scared out of starting a company all together.

Pump and dumps are far less common.

The market is more educated. The market expects to be more educated.

Of course we know the market changes in a matter of minutes, but sustainability is the goal.

Profitability comes with time and patience. I absolutely believe the market will be significantly profitable again. Soon.

Our community has shown resilience, if you’re still here, congrats!

Blockchain is being integrated into the tech world like no other tech has in the past 20 years.

This will only continue.

Bitcoin is King.

      Mike Finegan
Blockchain technology is a major disruption in financial analysis. It allows a program to utilize logic to ascertain an audit of transactions.

It allows anyone to do due diligence. It allows anyone to be informed.

Make no mistake: Blockchain is in everyone's future. The big question is how the best solution is able to allow the best solution to coalesce with the desires of the majority.

      Ash Roulston
Last year, Coinbase had a $1B valuation and was touted as the first unicorn in the industry.

This year Coinbase has an $8B valuation.

The things that we spent 2016 talking about needing for adoption are coming to fruition.

Insurance? Yep
Custodial services for institutional investors? Yep
Regulation clarity? Starting
Consumer protection? Starting
People not even having to know they're using blockchain? Starting

Overall, we're in a long consolidation pattern, I said so months ago and now it's on every chart. We're not done with it yet but we will be soon. I don't expect to see $10k this year with travel and holiday expenses on the horizon (unless we see another instance of people talking about crypto at Thanksgiving)

All of the projects that matter are scaling AND have reason to scale. I don't mean the shitcoin of the week. I mean Bitcoin and Ethereum level projects.

Other projects are serving as testing grounds, solving issues, testing out solutions, and many are failing, but failing is part of the process.

On a tech level, we're better than we were last year.
On a market level, we're better than we were last year.
On an education level, we're better than we were last year.

Last year we had people, inexperienced speculators, who wanted moons and lambos. And in a bull market, that's fine. Just about anything you do will win. But in a bear market, we flush out those temporal edges, we flush out those snake oil salesmen, and those speculators learn some major, expensive, lessons.

Abra just announced the launch of the new Abra crypto index token. One product that gives global retail investors access to 80% of the cryptocurrency market. Minimum investment is only $5!!

How does it work?

Abra's BIT10 token was created via a partnership with Bitwise who supplies the pricing and rebalancing rules. The BIT10 uses the same synthetic asset model as all of the other assets in Abra and is 100% collateralized in Bitcoin.

What will Happen to Existing CDPs when multi-collater DAI goes live?
by huntingisland

Title asks the question. Please tell me it’s not “global settlement”.
Thanks!

      Rune4444
There will be a long transition period before SCD is shut down, probably 6 months (though extreme market conditions could theoretically force it to happen sooner) and during this transition period there will be a one-click interface that allows SCD CDP holders to easily migrate their SCD CDP to MCD.

Is there a magical max number to of WETH to buy without causing slippage?
by bitttycoin

People on this subreddit say to buy WETH and then convert to PETH in small batches. Doing so is supposed to help with price slippage. If someone wants to buy 1000 WETH to ultimately take out a DAI loan, is there a magical amount of WETH ( to avoid slippage ) he or she should be buying to get to 1000 WETH. For instance, buy 100 WETH, wait an hour, and buy 100 more WETH. Do this 10 times till you get 1000 WETH. In this case, are these 100 WETH batch buys fine, or will even this amount cause price slippage?

Is there a way of checking a proper amount to buy all at once to avoid price slippage?

      AusIV
If you have ETH you're not buying WETH or PETH, you're locking up ETH to create WETH, and locking up WETH to create PETH. There's no buying / selling involved.

If you're trying to buy ETH to start the process, high volume buys might impact the price, but converting to WETH and PETH do not.

Are there any exchanges that will convert DAI directly to US Dollars?
by bitttycoin

Part of the reason why I'm asking is that people have mentioned you can use DAI as a loan, and this loan is not a taxable event. However, if DAI can not be easily converted directly to USD, then is that still the case? For instance if you have to convert from DAI to ETH to USD is that still not considered a taxable event?

      latetot
Yes. Wyre

Also dether which is like an app driven localethereum but with Dai etc

if i'm not mistaken u can do like this: ethfinex dai/usdt >>> kraken >>> usdt / usd >>> withdraw

What just happened? Price crash...
by Bored_guy_in_dc

GNO just took a huge dump down to its lowest SAT levels, maybe ever... Any reason?

      davidiach
Poloniex will delist it.

      Bored_guy_in_dc
Ahh... makes sense.
EDIT: At these prices, I am filling my bags! lol

You gotta love panic based fire sales! With a low cap low supply coin like GNO, pumps are so easy (and regular) that its stupid not to pick some up at these prices…

Gnosis is one of them. The market has great deals, especially with the current market cap. We're part of a very interesting economic transition.

My Early Review of Everipedia - 9/10!!
by CryptoInvestor87

Since the platform has been opened up to everyone to become Editors, yesterday I finally got the chance to sit down and test it out. Everipedia was one of the DApps I was looking forward to the most post-launch of EOS and I must say I am impressed. I haven't yet fully worked out how the allocation of IQ works depending on if you vote, edit, or create. You don't get as much IQ for voting as you do for say, creating your own page. But you also can control how much you put towards voting.

I started out with 309 IQ Tokens and decided to stake all of them to get Brainpower (hey why not...I'm not using them for anything else and you get them back). Brainpower is non-transferable and exists only on the platform to allow you to make edits, create pages, and vote on the edits of other Editors. Since you're only staking you IQ tokens, not burning them, you regain access to them after 21 days (3 weeks). From what I can tell, you get 1:1 brainpower for IQ tokens. So 309 IQ Tokens is good for 309 brainpower.

As of right now, it looks like every edit or creation of a page costs 10 brainpower...so it can drain fast if you aren't careful. Adding Citations is very easy however, and once you add a Citation (which also costs 10 brainpower), you can use that same citation all over the page you just created for no cost. The only costs comes in saving your edits. Luckily, the Everipedia team gives you the ability to SAVE your drafts to load at a later time, in case you don't want to burn brainpower making a minor update.

Congratulatory Note !!!
by dmkzeal

Recently i took a hands on experience of EOS powered Dapps and the experience was very pleasant and seamless;

Though more of it was games like eosdice, winall.io , Lucky but the charm of seamless interaction with EOS Network was amazing.

I also had an amazing experience with the community where in at one stage my CPU capacity ran out and A kind gentlemen staked EOS for me just to make sure i don't give up on EOS.

I feel EOS has the tailwind to succeed as a Blockchain Protocol to reckon with and shows a great promise indeed.

I congratulate all the community members and Developers involved with EOS.IO

D DASH node light
by elchrudel

Hey did anyone propose the possibility to run DASH nodes without owning (a 1000) DASH ? Maybe make it possible to run DASH nodes similar to BTC nodes, i.e. without the mining rewards but with (limited) voting rights. Wouldn't it help decentralization ? How did the proposal go if there was one?

      kanuuker
You don't need any collateral to run a Dash node, you just need to run the free Core wallet. It has no voting rights though - that would defeat the purpose of voting rights if collateral wasn't required.

Swarm Democracy is Taking Shape
Katerina Kan

New quorum and voting majority requirements approved by Swarm community

The Swarm community has approved new voting requirements for the Swarm democracy. With a majority vote (that closed at midnight on September 16) the community lowered the quorum requirement from more than 50 percent to 25 percent. This means that now 25 percent of the tokens in circulation are required to participate in a vote, for the result of the vote to be considered valid.

The results of the ballot can be viewed at voting.swarm.fund.

EOSJS Major Update V20.0.0 Beta: Entrusting key management to signature providers for a more secure future of javascript development for EOSIO
Eosio

Since release of the EOSIO software platform in June, EOSJS has been the most well-received community-driven library for connecting your frontend application with an EOSIO blockchain.

With more than 65,000 downloads of the npm package and widespread utilization across many great EOSIO-based projects, it’s fair to say the first iterations of EOSJS have been a success. This was due to the hard work of many well-known members of the community, like James Calfee, whom we are excited to have worked closely with through the initial release of EOSIO.

Over the past few months we’ve studied usage of EOSJS in many community applications as well as our own projects in development at Block.one. The primary conclusion we’ve come to is that to create great user experiences and maintain the highest levels of security, blockchain applications should almost never need to access a user’s private keys.

Comparison: EOS vs. Ethereum dApps
BP.Fish

dApps are applications that are built on decentralized, blockchain platforms. With multitudes of platforms on the market, it can be difficult to differentiate between which is the right fit for you. To make it a bit easier, we thought we’d put together a comparison between EOS and Ethereum — both fantastic platforms with their own, unique merits — and see which one takes first place.

Users

When comparing gambling platforms built on EOS and Ethereum respectively, we found that
those built on EOS far outperformed Ethereum. The casino with the highest number of users in 24 hours was BetDice, with 5,824 users (built on EOS). Contrastingly, the casino with the highest number of users when built on Ethereum, Mobius 2D, peaked at 158 users in 24 hours.

Volume

Volume refers to the number of times a cryptocurrency has changed hands during a certain period of time, usually 24 hours. When examining token exchanges built on Ethereum versus EOS, things get a little murky. DEXEOS, an EOS exchange, has a volume of 47,708.82 EOS in a 24 hour period, while IDEX, an Ethereum platform has a volume of 4,008.91 ETH. With that being said, IDEX has far more users than DEXEOS and is a more established exchange. This could be due to IDEX having more users because it was launched before DEXEOS.
