No Surprise in Bitcoin Arbitrage Opportunities Researched

Immature markets are always made to be opportunistic as they are the ones most vulnerable for mispricing and dislocations. An article from the Financial Analysts Journal demonstrated that over $300 million of excess profits were available after particular events that strained bitcoin markets across exchanges given global mispricings. Most investors in the asset class have grown used to these wide spread although they have be coming down as volatility has subsided significantly since the last boom and bust cycle.

What are the events that could be opportunities? The authors found that "Spreads increase during the early hours of a day (according to coordinated universal time), when new exchanges enter markets, and following bitcoin heists and hacks." This comes to support the age long thought of high risk/high reward within new asset classes and bitcoin is not an outlier. As the asset class continues to expand and innovate, I will imagine more arbitrage opportunities to be available for those not of the faint at heart.
