Bitcoin Core talking points translated honestly

The constant attacks by Bitcoin Core against Bitcoin Cash reveal far more about their own intellectual and moral state than they do any weaknesses in Bitcoin Cash, but exactly what they reveal is not immediately obvious.

In the words of Sherlock Holmes in A Scandal in Bohemia, we need to go beyond the realm of seeing — of taking them at face value — and into the realm of observing the implications behind their words.

Let’s look at some of their main talking points and restate them more openly and honestly.

“Roger Ver is a felon and we can’t trust him.”

The legal proceedings of the US Government should be trusted without question. All men who violate a law are immoral. Bitcoin is about state compliance, not state resistance.

Doublethink means the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one’s mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them.
― George Orwell, 1984

“Bitcoin Cash is owned by big business.”

We believe there is no fundamental difference between economic power and political power. Both are dirty and should be met with equal distrust and disdain.

“Why don’t Bitcoin Cash supporters use Litecoin or Dogecoin or Visa?”

We will promote anything and everything that can distract from Bitcoin Cash because we know that it poses a serious threat to our control over Bitcoin.

“Coinbase needs to be punished for insider trading.”

We don’t really believe in a decentralized, unregulated market. If things don’t go our way, we are more than happy to stomp it out with the state.

“Bitcoin Cash is stealing Bitcoin’s branding.”

We admit that our cartel controls Bitcoin Core and no longer considers it an open source project.

“Why does Bitcoin Cash need to criticize Bitcoin? It should focus on itself.”

We know that Bitcoin Cash has a serious case against us. We don’t mind constant attacks as long as they come from us.

“Bitcoin is not for buying coffee.”

We think a cartel of developers should have a say over what Bitcoin can and can’t be used for.

“If you don’t like Bitcoin, it’s your responsibility to fix it. Don’t complain.”

If you don’t like Bitcoin, it’s your responsibility to fix it, but only by the narrow range of methods of which we approve, not by the judgement of your own mind. Dissent will not be tolerated.

Orthodoxy means not thinking–not needing to think. Orthodoxy is unconsciousness.
― George Orwell, 1984

“Bitcoin Cash supporters are only in it for the money.”

The success of Bitcoin depends on people acting against their self interest. The profit motive has no place in Bitcoin. We’re the only people who are allowed to want to make money, nobody else.

We’ve reached a sad state of affairs in Bitcoin. The old, pro-freedom, economically and philosophically literate radicals have been replaced by a bureaucracy of charlatans who destroyed Bitcoin so they could cling to their power.
