crypto-currencies
Over the past 24 hours there have been two events, the connection between which it was not difficult to guess. Yesterday afternoon, the largest Russian-language exchange of crypto-currencies - BTC-e was closed on "unscheduled technical work", and today it became known that a little earlier, a 38-year-old Russian citizen, Alexander Vinnik, suspected by the US authorities in laundering large sums of money in bitcoins, was arrested.
As you know, the owners of BTC-e diligently kept anonymity, but Bits.media received information from the administrator of the service qugla.com, which also conducted the marketing campaign of the start-up Humaniq. He says that Alexander Vinnik is one of the owners and administrators of BTC-e, and answered several questions about possible options for the development of the situation:
What else do you know about Alexander Vinnik?
He is one of the owners [BTC-e], perhaps the administrator. The second administrator probably has access to the exchange. Now, most likely negotiations are under way with the SEC and the US Department of Justice.
So, have the authorities already got access to servers with money?
I think no. But this is a matter of time. In the near future, new information should appear.
What are your forecasts on the situation with the BTC?
Forecasts are disappointing. If within 48 hours the situation is not resolved in a positive way, with a high degree of probability you can forget about the money.
The address that walks in the network, from which large amounts have left, relates to the exchange?
As far as I know, no. I heard that this address belongs to Coinbase.
Do you want to add something from this situation?
Do not store money on stock exchanges, use multisig, do not break the law, take care.
Somewhat later, information about the connection between Alexandra Vinnik and BTC-e was confirmed by the Greek police.
There is no reliable information about the future of the exchange at this time, however, the connection between yesterday's arrest and the closure of the stock exchange has cleared up. Whether the exchange will keep working capacity after the arrest of at least one of its owners, and what will happen to the funds on the stock purses, we can not say. Probably, it is necessary to expect a long trial, according to the results of which a decision will be made.
