IAGON – A BREATH OF FRESH AIR TO THE CLOUD COMPUTING AND STORAGE SERVICES SECTOR. (a detailed description of the workings of the IAGON platform in a way that anyone can understand it)

A one-week long entrepreneurship class had come to a close, with the supervisor, Professor May, standing up from her seat and announcing to the class of 200 students, '' I want two students, Joe and Sam, to come up with the most efficient way to transport 50 boxes containing soap bars, daily for the next one week from the hostel to this classroom”.

Joe decided to hire a truck at the standard rate of $100 per day, to carry the boxes for the whole week. Whenever the truck had some faults, Joe was not able to deliver the boxes on time for that day.

Sam on the other hand reasoned that majority of the students drove their personal cars from the hostel to the class, and most of the time their car trunks were either empty or had some space in them. So he made an agreement with 50 students daily to carry 1 box each at $1, that's a cost of $50. The students saw this as fair since the spaces in their car trunk were lying idle, and making a dollar for that 'idle' space was good business.

Whenever a student had a faulty car, all Sam needed do was to have that student replaced with another from the 200 students. Hence, not only did Sam save $50 for transporting the same amount of boxes, he also delivered them on time even when a student had a faulty car.

The story above is a familiar day to day experience that summarizes what IAGON is coming into the cloud computing and storage services space to accomplish. There is so much that the IAGON platform has to offer, and that is what I would be elaborating on in this write up.

THE NORM IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH

Irrational would be our thinking if we choose to overlook the fact that the following cloud computing services ( AWS, Google cloud, or Microsoft Azure ) have been interwoven into mindset of people, just the same way Google comes to mind when we think of internet search. But this does not take away the fact that these cloud services have some short comings, which if being addressed would lead to a more, highly efficient cloud computing services.

Zooming into these cloud services (AWS, Google cloud, Microsoft Azure), you will get to notice two main shortcomings:

- DATA STORAGE TECHNOLOGY WITH LOW SECURITY:

These cloud services make use of a data storage technology called data lake technology, which operates by storing and retrieving all data from a central database. This means that if the database is hacked, the intruder has full access to all the information stored.

To understand this better, imagine having a vault containing your life savings, and the vault has a password IAGON, and you want to keep this password written on paper and secured in a secure location. You then decided to write the password on a piece of paper, and then store the paper in a safe secured by a lock. The paper containing the password is at the mercy of the strength of that lock to remain secure. The moment the lock is broken, that information becomes compromised.

This is the same way the data lake technology works. All the data becomes accessible to whoever hacks the central server. This makes this storage technique to have a low security level.

The major cloud computing companies (AWS, Google cloud, Microsoft Azure) have monopolized the cloud computing sector, and hence use that power to decide the cost of these service, which as we all know have been on the very high side.

Just like saving a child playing comfortably on a faulty swing, I would be introducing a platform that would save the populace from their comfortable dealings with these cloud computing companies - a relationship that just like a faulty swing, if not corrected, would most likely lead to a devastating end. This platform is called IAGON.

IAGON is a decentralized, open-sourced cloud computing and storage services platform. To shed more light on this concept, IAGON is a platform with a blockchain backbone, firmly encased in the decentralized blockchain technology, to provide cheaper and more secure cloud computing and storage services, by means of a revolutionary idea of making use of peoples' idle computing and storage facilities in their computers, smart phones, and other devices.

To illustrate further, imagine your favorite uncle bought a high end laptop for your 18th birthday, and you use less than 20% of its computer power and storage, probably for movies and songs. Just imagine that the designers of internet's model of operation, chose to store all the world’s data on one central server, as opposed to the current model of using interconnected computers. It would not have been as effective as it currently is. If that central server is hacked, all the data on that central server is at the mercy of the hacker.

With the model of interconnected computers, even if one computer is hacked, the others are well protected from that hack. This is what IAGON is introducing to the cloud computing and storage space, by going contrary to the traditional, but highly risky model of storing all data on a central server, to connecting the idle computing power and storage capacity of various computers and devices all around the world.

Hike in price is one of the many disadvantages of monopoly, which companies like Amazon, Google, and Microsoft have brought into the cloud computing and storage industry. IAGON brings a breath of fresh air into the industry by means of a revolutionary idea of accumulating the idle computing power and storage capacity of computers and mobile devices of various individuals

Majority of the computers and smart phones we possess have computing powers and storage capacities that lie idle, which when linked, can amount to large computing capabilities to fulfil the needs of small and large businesses.
Because of the model of this business, the cost is reduced drastically compared to the central server model practiced by Amazon, Google, and Microsoft. These companies have invested large amounts of money to acquire data centers and storage facilities for the purpose of renting them out in return for service rental charges, hence their major aim is profit making.

On the other hand, individuals with computers and smart phones never purchased them for the purpose of profit making, but for pleasure, companionship, and so on. Hence, the cost of using these devices for their idle spaces and computing power will be far cheaper.

Most small businesses have great visions which they intend to actualize using cloud computing and storage services, but due to the cost factor involved, they are restrained on the amount of this service they can actually access. Big businesses also strive to expand their businesses beyond their present sphere of influence, and this requires huge amount of funds to purchase cloud computing and storage services.

That is why the revolutionary and cost effective model of using idle computing power and storage capacities would benefit both small businesses and large businesses, irrespective of their unique needs.

- PROTECTION OF DATA AGAINST HACKERS

I previously gave an illustration where I asked you to imagine having a vault containing your life savings, and the vault has a password IAGON, and you want to keep this password written on paper and secured in a secure location. You then decided to write the password on paper, and then store the paper in a safe secured by a lock. The paper containing the password is at the mercy of the strength of that lock to remain secure. The moment the lock is broken, that information becomes compromised.

A better way of storing this password is to separate the word into letters (slicing the word) and then giving these individual letters to different individuals who have no knowledge of each other or can contact each other in anyway.

The distributed letters (sliced words) model is far more secure than storing it as a whole word in a safe, making the word at the mercy of the protection the safe has.

Traditional cloud computing services (Amazon, Google and Microsoft) store their data like storing a word in a safe and then locking the safe, while IAGON stores data by means of the distributed letters technique (slicing the word and distributing them).

This method IAGON uses to protect data against hackers is known as secure lake technology. Instead of storing all the data on one server, and then protecting that server,IAGON stores data on various ''mini servers'' which are actually idle storage spaces on computers and devices of various people all around the world, and then protecting this individually stored information from miners by means of encryption and slicing of the data, such that no miner can have all the whole data, but just a slice of that data - Just like having a letter from a word.

"A basket containing all your eggs" is the most appropriate phrase to describe the situation where you leave all your data at the mercy of cloud computing providers that use the central storage technique to store your data, especially data that has to do with trusted information of your customers.

I and my team are in the process of creating a unique e-commerce website where people can compare prices of products on various e-commerce sites, and then shop through our website, following our affiliate link, hence acquiring some commission for us. This website would require our users to register on it, providing some basic information about themselves, information like phone number, email address, house address, and so on.

This requires that we make use of a cloud computing service that is highly secure, protecting our customer’s information from any form of hack.

Also, as a startup, cost is a huge factor when it comes to acquiring the services of a cloud computing service. We would require the most cost effective but yet efficient cloud computing and storage service we can find.

Literally throwing your Hard-drive and CPU's into the clouds would save your data where it can NEVER be retrieved. So I would talk about the cloud storage that would securely store your data, and give it back to you whenever you need it.

Rather than worrying about storage devices for your data, cloud storage provides you a cheaper means to store your data, and also to access that data from anywhere in the world.

Cloud storage involves paying cloud storage service providers for their service of providing storage facilities for your data. To expatiate further, you pay money to these cloud storage companies to help you save the data of your website on their storage devices.

The model that exists now is the central server storage mechanism operated by Amazon, Google, Microsoft. But this model is expensive and also has some security risks.

Firstly, its expensive because the data centers and storage devices used by these companies were purchased for the purpose of doing business and profit making, in addition to the fact that these companies have monopolized the cloud storage business. This means profit making is the main aim of these businesses, hence making the cost of acquiring these services on the high side.

Secondly, because these companies use a central server system, the moment the central server can be hacked, all the data become available to the hacker, and can be used for whatever purpose he pleases.

IAGON on the other hand does not buy storage devices, data centers, or computing power, but uses the idle computing and storage capabilities of computers and smart devices, in exchange for IAGON tokens, which can in turn be exchanged for fiat. In some countries, some individuals who produce their own electricity, especially by solar means, usually sell their excess electricity by transmitting it through the grid to the customers. An electricity grid is an interconnected network for transmitting electricity from producers to consumers. The electricity grid consists of a generation station (which is the solar installation in the house of the producer) where the power is being generated, transmission systems (Cables and transformers) that carry and condition the electricity to a consumable form, which the consumer at the receiving end consumes.

The transmission system is the brain of the electricity grid, where the processing and conditioning of the transmitted electricity takes place, conditioning it to a form that’s easily consumable by the consumer.

The IAGON smart computing grid works in the same way. Just like you have an electricity grid transmitting the excess electricity of producers to the consumer, hence satisfying the much needed electricity need of the consumer, the IAGON smart computing grid transmits the idle CPU processing power and storage space of the CPU provider to the consumer, helping to satisfy the much needed CPU processing power and storage capacity need of the consumer.

In return, the CPU provider earns IAGON tokens which can be exchanged for fiat currencies, or used to purchase other services on the IAGON platform.
