Until recently, the only way to protect user data was the password. Accounts protected by a password were susceptible to hacking. In this case, all user information was transferred to the hands of intruders. In addition, often users do not invent especially complicated passwords and use the same passwords for several accounts. Large databases of passwords sometimes fall into open access. Over time, large companies that pay attention to the issue of confidentiality of customer data introduced new rules for protecting information. So, for example, there is a two-factor authorization or confirmation with the help of fingerprints, and chains of keywords, as in the case of the cryptocurrency wallet security systems.

To help protect user data or manage corporate databases, applications with password management functions have been created. Such applications generate passwords of increased complexity or special key phrases for accessing the account. The young Ukrainian start-up — Remme — brought the protection of the personal information to a new level, developing a revolutionary platform for password management based on the Ethereum blockchain.

Remme’s main advantages

The Remmo platform development team is constantly working to improve the level of protection of user information. Thanks to the use of a decentralized storage system for passwords based on the blockchain, users are able to reliably protect their information. Access to the user data is carried out using the algorithm for verifying the SSL certificates. Each registered platform user is able to issue and assign an unlimited number of certificates, and each will be responsible for a certain account.

Among other advantages of the platform, we can note the following:

  • All user information is stored in a distributed database based on the Ethereum blockchain technologies. This means that even if the intruders attempt to hack your data, they will need to access the entire chain of blocks that store personal information.
  • The flexible integration with many applications and automatic management systems. Thanks to this feature, the Remmo framework can freely interact with most existing e-commerce systems, with regular user accounts, and with corporate database systems.
  • The possibility of unlimited release and assignment of certificates, for which you do not need to pay additional funds or pay additional commissions for service.
  • Ability to revoke or re-issue the certificate for authentication.
  • An absence of interference of third parties and state regulatory departments.
  • The ability to personalize the options for logging into accounts, including multi-factor authentication and different login types to different accounts.

The functions of the platform are based on the algorithms of the Hyperledger Sawtooth blockchain and additional consensus algorithms used in the Ethereum and Dash networks.

To optimize the work of the platform, in the future it is planned to develop special algorithms for the permanent verification of the authenticity of certificates in the Blockchain network. Thanks to this system, it will be possible to integrate various platforms with the implemented settings of the Remme security system. The platform will be permanently connected to the general Remme blockchain database and will, therefore, be able to perform information protection functions regardless of the status of the underlying system whose information is to be protected.

There are two main types of certificates on the platform:

  • Self-signed certificates. In this case, all user information, including logins, passwords or dates, is stored in a distributed blockchain network.
  • Corporate certificates. In this case, most often, there is one basic certificate, which includes certificates in the order below. The primary certificate is responsible for accessing data from other certificates. This is more convenient for large corporate databases.

Conclusions and future prospects

The flexibility of working with different applications and corporate data management programs, as well as the unique certificate authentication system, allows you to forget about common logins and passwords. Now, only the owner of the information will be able to access it. This is achieved with the use of the most up-to-date developments of the blockchain technology and a unique system of certificates. These properties allow the Remme platform to aim at achieving the status of one of the best standards for protecting user information.
