Previously called dark coin, now Dash - a combination of the words “digital” and “cash".
Dash offers instant and private transactions. The only con seems is when you search for dash on Google the first result comes is irrelevant.

Steem is just like other cryptocurrencies , or may be a lot more?
In Bitcoin miners earn block rewards by solving difficult math problems whereas steem rewards it's users by creating and curating content.
Steem transaction are instant. However, there is no privacy in the system.

Ethereum
As the official Ethereum website says.
“Ethereum is a decentralized platform for applications that run exactly as programmed without any chance of fraud, censorship, or third-party interference.”
Let's dig a little.
Ethereum is the same just like other services you use today, only that instead of being a single computation device that you have physical access to, the computations run (and the results are stored) on every participating node on the Ethereum network. In case of any inconsistency in the results, the nodes on the Ethereum network can come to a consensus on which of the results is the valid one. The computations can also be permissioned such that only designated participants can execute them.

I think there is a lot of money to be made in altcoins. It is a little difficult trading them in South Africa though, our exchanges only support BTC and LTC at the moment. Hopefully it will change soon!!
