Got a lot of STEEM or BTC? Protect your tracks with VPN!

in #crypto8 years ago

If you have a lot of STEEM or BTC you should take your privacy seriously. When you login to many websites, upload photos, connect facebook or read blogs - theres more and more ways of tracking you.

But to really get you hacker usualy needs to be able to connect to you.. which is by finding your IP address or trying to send you malware on email or so.

Protection online is a big topic and hiding IP is just small part of it. Yet its very easy and pretty cheap compared to security that you can get.

By using proper VPN setup your ISP wont know what you are doing, your Gov wont know.. and many others too.

Here is my short guide with pros and cons of a few services. Choose one that suits you.
All of this services have the following so i will not be mentioning that at all:

  • Loads of IPs
  • Unlimited bandwith
  • 256-bit AES encryption
  • Torrent allowed
  • Unlimited server switching
  • Bitcoin anonymoys payments
  • OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPsec VPN protocols
  • 1 click install Windows/OSX/iOS/Android apps

IPVanish

Good support and decent speeds even for torrenting. As the claim they are the only Top Tier VPN in the world. Really stabile servers and unlike others they add not only countries but also cities.
The only downside i found is on every update of their windows app there is computer restart needed.

AirVPN

Loads of IPs, double data encryption or even VPN over TOR. They guarantee minimum of 4 Mbit/s download + 4 Mbit/s upload on any server no-matter load. Located in EU and uses Union directive on protecting privacy. Full port-forwrding which is a good use especially for some cryptocoin wallets that need ie UPNP. You can try it for 3 days just for 0.80 EUR
Donwside is the EU location itself.

MyPrivateProxy

If you ie want to just access some sites hiding your IP then a very cheap way is to buy proxies. Mostly USA ones up here but have been using them since years and this guys are good. If needed they offer a nice VPN service too but mostly i recommend them for proxy buys. If VPN is not a big need but you want to sometimes switch a host to login somewhere - thats a good place to go.

Remember: VPN is to be used to hide your IP but not to do illegal things. If you want to do something rogue then you need to use other methods. You pay VPN 10$ a month - they wont hide you for a fine of million of dollars.

Good habits of VPN usage:

  • Switch IPs as often as you can (stay mangled)
  • Before logging to Paypal or Bank turn off VPN (it may trigger their firewalls or security)
  • Set kill-switch in the apps ie IRC (do not allow irc or other easily accessed sites to ever connect without VPN)
  • Install WebRTC Leak Prevention App in browser (withotu this your IP may go out even on VPN)
