What Are Moons?
This post does a very fine job at explaining in detail what Reddit moons are:

It even has a TLDR for anyone who wants to learn about MOONs and get an insight about them. I will make a brief explanation here as well. Basically moons are a way to reward people for their contribution to the community in r/CryptoCurrency. Moons operate on the Ethereum blockchain as an ERC-20 token and are controlled by you. You can transfer them, spend them in r/CryptoCurrency as well as act as a tipping currency within the community. Many people often tip Moons in trivia contests or other games hosted by the tipper. There are also friendly and kind people who tip moons to people who do not have any yet.
There were initially 50,000,000 MOONs that are distributed based on earned karma within the subreddit to start. The amount of MOONs distributed each month after will start with 5 million and will be decreased by 2.5% every month, so eventually the total MOONs distributed over time is going to reach the maximum capacity of 250 million. At the moment MOONs are operating on the Rinkeby testnet and will be moved to the main net when ETH 2.0 is launched. So sending moons off of Reddit to a non Reddit-wallet are on the testnet and will not show up unless you switch to Rinkeby network. Setting Up Your Vault
In order to obtain your MOONs you are required to first set up your vault. Once you have joined the r/CryptoCurrency subreddit you will have the option to set up your vault. Setting up your vault is pretty straightforward and simple. First tap on your profile picture on the top left hand corner of the Home menu. Once you tapped on your profile image this should bring up your profile information and settings. From there you will see a dropdown menu with "Vault" under "Create a community". If you do not see this option then make sure you have successfully joined the r/CrytoCurrency subreddit. You should get a message from an auto moderator bot as well. Once you have tapped on the "Vault" menu it will bring you to a page to create your backup recovery phrase as well as a vault password. It is very important to write these down because if you uninstall Reddit or lose access to your wallet you will be required to input this information to get your MOONs back! Once you have successfully submitted your phrase and vault password you should see a page where you can claim any MOONs obtained. That's all there is to it! You have successfully set up your vault and are ready to post in the subreddit to gain even more MOONs! If you have any troubles setting up your vault or have any questions please feel free to let me know and I will do my best to help.
