Citizens Signing Petitions Against Government Regulating Crypto - Can You Believe This Is Actually Happening?
In South Korea people are signing a petition against Government measures to tighten up control to cryptocurrencies, according to Wall Street Journal. Apparently, more than 200,000 people already signed this petition, which triggers the threshold at which the government must respond, somehow.
Now, I don't know exactly the terms of the petition and I also have no idea if this will lead to a positive or negative result to the markets.
But what really baffles me is that we're talking about something like this today, like, you know, January 16th 2018. We're talking about social uproar generated by the rise of cryptocurrencies.
We're talking about a civil revolution actually unfolding.
It's easy to get caught in the action if you're close to the phenomenon, and miss the incredible massive implications that this news have, but try to make a few steps back and think about what you were doing a year ago, today. Did you know about crypto-currencies? Did you own some? Did you even think about a social uproar related to cryptos?
And yet, we're in the middle of it. We're in the middle of a brutal and unstoppable separation between new social layers, and this time it's not ideological. It's not communists versus capitalists. It's not "left" versus "right".
It's a different type of revolution, in which the stake is financial freedom and total reengineering of the social interactions, and the spark is technological.
It's probably for the first time in the history of the mankind that such a consistent social polarization is generated by a technological advancement.
And I have a hunch that it is not the last...

So it's your move Korean Government. What are you going to do?
Can you see the writing on the wall? Can you see you're in the middle of revolutionary social change? Or will you pass it off as a fleet of fancy by a few on the fringe and set to control crypto anyway? I expect the latter, because that is the nature of government anymore, but I will hope for the best.
reckon he's happy about now?
True, this is turning out to be the greatest revolutions for technological advancement.
It will be awesome telling my grandkids that "I was there when it all happened" :)
you think it will be so revolutionary with such lasting impact? I also wonder in those lines...
I think so and hope so.
Exactly,,,that's what I thought.
It will be interesting to see how the regulatory response is across the world and how the citizen response is to such regulations. Governments have started to notice that their thousand year old hold on money is diminishing. Specially with implications on tax income, governments are bound to take necessary action - what the impact is - we will have to see.
I could only imagine how much more waves crypto will make in the years to follow. Glad I joined steem early.
Glad to have not only the opportunity but the privilege to be a part of not only an opportunity but a great community.
Yep, we are in the middle of a revolution and this movement in Korea is the sign that people really want to be able to live in a free world.
We are living interesting times...
Interesting, I might say. I think this kind of uproar is healthy. There aren't many people that understand what cryptocurencies are and I bet the government don't go to them when they regulate thinga.
Typo Report: You most likely meant today's date to be January 16th 2018 not January 16th 2017 as mentioned in this posting. 😎
Thanks, corrected!
I consider this good news and I hope it affects the government's policies there. After all governments are there to do our bidding, not the other way around and it's important for them to be reminded that that's the case at least from time to time.
