Zero knowledge proof transactions means true anonymity is finally on the table for crypto. Many other coins have claimed to be able to accomplish this, but none have truly delivered the level of anonymity that Zcash plans on achieving. This is a really, really big deal in the crypto space, even if you don’t think it’s that important to you.

Conclusion:
I have been personally following the Zcash project for a long time. I’m planning on mining it when it launches, as I believe that the upside here is insane. Setting aside the financial implications of this project, I feel this is an essential ingredient in the crypto equation to improving our lives.
We need an open and transparent main ledger in Bitcoin. We also need an encrypted ledger that hides the transaction details with complete confidence. No one wants people snooping around their Bitcoin wallet addresses to see their everyday transactions. Privacy isn’t just for drug dealers and criminals, it’s for everyone!
Alongside these two pillars of our crypto futures, we have a third, rising up with Steemit. Steem isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and can play a key role in bridging gaps between the old financial world and the new. It serves its purpose by enabling applications the other two simply can’t.
I’ll continue to look at other crypto projects I find interesting going forward...

I think Monero has been pretty good at anonymity. Anyway, the more solutions to the problem are there the more choice we have. The world as it is now is just one big lab for crypto technologies.
The developers' nicknames are ingenious, I especially like secparam and least_nathan =)
I like Monero and Dash, but Zcash does anon differently. Time will certainly tell if it does it the best, but with the financial backing behind the company, the depth of talent on the project, and the thoughtful, patience of Zooko's leadership, it's hard not be most optimistic about Zcash in this area of the crypto lab.
@derekareith have you tried to recruit Zooko to Steemit?
I actually haven't. I've reached out to many people, but have focused primarily on people I know in real life. Zooko is one of the nicest people in crypto and now that you mention it, I will make a concerted effort today to recruit him :)
ZCash is another good crypto to look forward to
