Sometimes, AI as most innovations feels like a threat, maybe remember when they said, crypto is only used by gangsters etc. ? I feel the statement by the professor you cite to be very true, that tech can always be used for good and for bad, and to determine this would maybe always be at the discretion of humans (let's hope the machines don't acquire greater power to outdo us in that).
Fraud always existed and societies normally set up something like law enforcement to handle it, So when we reach the far away point of real AI to come into existence that @lighteye mentioned earlier, we might in fact need the turing police (who hunt down AI trying to break through from bounds restricting their liberties, just for those who are unfamiliar with Neuromancer, and go buy and read that book!).
The question is what do we want to achieve with AI? Yes I came here for the money, but i stayed for the discussions, and i love to chat an discuss with you guys, exchanging thoughts and pros and cons. Of course could like walk away have a coffee and let our AIs populate our feeds for us, but is this what we really want? I will also always continue to enjoy playing go or chess with a friend even though, even a mediocre software will now easily beat me at it.
