Marshall Islands to Make Crypto an Official National Currency
The US Marshall Islands is a sovereign state in free association with the United States of America. What this means is that they are self governed but, receive support and services from the US, i.e. defense, USPS, etc. This also means that the Marshall Islands use the US Dollar as their national currency, that is until now.
According to several news outlets the Marshall Islands are planning to create their own national cryptocurrency, Sovereign, that will be accepted as legal tender. In this the Marshall Islands will move to distance themselves from the US Dollar. The government will vote later this year to issue their own ICO for the Sovereign token.
This is great news for the legitimacy of cryptocurrency and is just one example of how a forward thinking government can bolster the cryptocurrency platform and also potentially increase their own economy.
