Ventureo : What is the idea behind it?

What is the idea behind it?

Today the dollar and the euro are printed every month by central banks and given to other banks. It is the debt-money, an unfair system which make the rich richers.
The idea is to create a new currency hat is given to nonprofit with a vision of the society o improve people’s life.

Where can I learn more about it?

You can follow the Ventreo network on the wiki of the network
http://ventureo.frama.wiki

Why would other people be interested?

There are thousands of organizations in the world with a project and no money to implement it. If we create our own money, we will have more power to implement our projects and improve people’s life.

How does it help me and my project?

For a currency to be efficient, it needs to be used by thousands of people who are using it to exchange goods and services. This is only a start and there are few services offered by the members of the Ventureo network, but as more and more organizations will join, the network will grow, the quantity of money inside the net work will grow and the each participant will thrive.
Early early participant will probably have to hold their Ventureo into their electronic wallet for a while, until 1,000 organizations join the network.

I am still reading up on this idea but there are a few strange things that need clarification:

This asset is set up with the following flags:

  • Charge market fee
  • Override authority

The first -that you receive a percentage of every transaction- doesn't bother me that much, but the second does. On the info page I read

To participate in the development of this society, associations with a vision and a project need a strong and fair currency.

But this flag says: "issuer may transfer asset back to himself". That is not how a fair currency works. That means if you so choose you can take all my ventureo away from me at any time.
Then the permissions. These are flags that can be altered (either set or cleared).

  • Charge market fee
  • White list
  • Override authority
  • Transfer restricted
  • Disable confidential

So at any time you can make a list of who is allowed to hold these assets, or force to be a party in every transfer. Those options too do not belong in a fair currency.

Also from what I read the max supply can be altered at any time, again not exactly fair.

The people who get these assets now, all get them for free. So basically they have no value to the holders. How is this going to change? What will bring value to these assets?

You say it is not build on another platform such as ethereum. That is probably a misunderstanding, as it is build on the bitshares platform.

This asset is set up with the following flags:
Charge market fee

This is recommended to avoid speculation.

Override authority

There is no way I could get your Ventureo back without your approval ! This means that if I issue Ventureo to you (or someone else) then you can transfer the Ventureo back to me, if you decide to
From what I read and understood, No, the max supply of a user asset cannot be change. I can decide when to issue the asset up to 10 bln, but no more than the max supply.

Then the permissions. These are flags that can be altered (either set or cleared).

What gives the value to an asset or a currency is the trust among users, this is true for any currencies including dolar and euro. If nobody want to use a dollar tomorrow, there is no value include in it ! Because millions of people trust the dollar, then the federal reserve can print as many of them as they want.

You say it is not build on another platform such as ethereum. That is probably a misunderstanding, as it is build on the bitshares platform.

Yes, this was a misunderstanding !! it is on the bishares blockchain.

I am impress how you dig in the details, this helping me to go forward.
Because trust is the fundamental of the project, I would like to find a trusted fondation to support the project and me.
But I need a good white paper first.

Override authority
This is what I read here:

  • "Issuer may transfer asset back to himself." Note that it is the issuer that initiates the transfer, not the one holding the account with the assets.
  • "Allow Issuer to withdraw from any account" Same thing just in different words.

I think that makes it pretty clear that you, being the issuer have access to the ventureo's in my account. Now, I must admit that I do not know how it works, but this is what I read on multiple places in the documentation.

You also left the door open to white listing which means that you control who can or can not have these assets. And to forcing all transfers to go through you. These options are not active now, but you left the door open to activate them. That feels strange. Why would anyone do that if you want to create a fair currency?

Then back to the value of the assets. Suppose some other participant can do something for me and I want to pay him/her in ventureo's. How do we decide on its value? Do I pay 1 ventureo per hour of work or 10 or 100 or 1000? There is no starting point.
When I can buy a pizza for 10,000 ventureo's then I can see a value, but for now I would not know how much to charge or pay for work.
Maybe that will work itself out?

Almost forgot...

At the moment, do not use your openledger.bitshares link, they have been hacked !

My intention is to create a fair currency, I may be not the best Bitshares expert. I am asking more explanations on the Bitshares forum

I think another good project would be one to help reimburse people for lost/stolen crypto -> https://steemit.com/crytocurrency/@debraycodes/how-paypal-is-helping-cyber-criminals-steal-your-money-part-1
