IOTA to Develop Smart City in Taiwan

IOTA Ready for Action in Years Ahead

The city of Tapei in Taiwan is to partner with revolutionary cryptocurrency and company IOTA in order to design and implement a completely functioning Smart City. They will use IOTA as their unique distributed ledger platform and tangle technology would allow for an IoT infrastructure to be capable of operating on a city scale.

Wei Bin Lee the Commissioner of the Department of Information Technology in Taiwan expressed his excitement for the co operation with the company, saying that "IOTA can bring a new era of smart cities". IOTA will be the first company to be used for developing a smart city in Asia, and will provide incredible potential for enhancing security, 5g connectivity and access, business operations and the reduction of carbon emissions.

The IOTA platform will be issuing a Tangle ID card to all citizens within the smart city, and this card will be able to ease access to medical documents, and eliminate risks of identity theft and voting fraud. The card also features a very innovative application too, as it is sensitive to temperature, light and humidity among other things to be able to detect and inform it's users of real time pollution readings.

This is the first true real world application of a blockchain system that will aim to revolutionize society and the technological infrastructure of the world. The benefits of a smart city are great for lowering expenses and emissions while increasing productivity potential and the interactivity of the cities environment. However the collection of personal data that technologies like IOTA receive will be by regulation submitted to third parties for "safety" and "surveillance", specifically government agencies.

Is This the Beginning of the Orwellian State?

Awareness should be made about the hidden public surveillance that would be done with such an infrastructure in place, and know of the increasingly large amount of data collectable using a IOTA. Privacy should be respected and acknowledged just as much as progression, as this new era of technologies could see us caged by our own creations if not properly assessed and appreciated.
