The Private Provisioning Of Free Wi-Fi For The World And Its Benefits - A Dive Into The World Wi-Fi Business Model
Hey Guys, I've been thinking more about World Wi-Fi and what they're trying to do, which is to provide free public wi-fi across a majority of the globe. I've thought a bit about their business model and the way it will be more effective than past/current attempts. There are attempts at providing free Wi-Fi in some areas of the world, but there are a few glaring problems with them:
- Speed has notoriously been a problem with past attempts because of the large number of users who connect at the same time and the weakness of the public networks in relation to that number of users.
- The Areas Covered Aren't Broad Because Of The Lack Of Incentive In Areas
World Wi-Fi addresses these problems by incentivizing the running of private routers allowing the public access to free Wi-Fi through providing financial incentive to Router providers for ad impressions on their network. This addresses the problems in the following ways:
- Speed: Because users are paid based on their ad impressions, they have a reason to ensure adequate/competitive speed for their router. If a Router Host doesn't have adequate speed, users will choose to use other routers in the area. This will ensure that speed remains reasonable on the network.
- Geographic Disparity: The direct economic incentive to host routers will encourage people in broadly spanning different regions to host Routers and provide access to users.
I think that what World Wi-Fi is doing could be really big if they can implement all of the objectives in the roadmap that they have. You can find the details of their Roadmap in their whitepaper at:
I wouldn't mind having to watch a few ads a day if i got to have a decently stable internet connection. I'm from Venezuela and today marks the 30th day of my main internet connection being down, i have been using phone data for the last 30 days because my ISPs incompetence on the matter...
So i support 100% every single project and company trying to establish a world wide internet connection, if it runs at atleast 5mbits per second, it would already be 5x of what my current ISP provides (which is nothing right now because the connection is dead).
AMEN TO THAT! Your story is a SHINING example of the power of this project! Thank you for sharing! :)
Exactly! 15 days ago i created a post basically complaining and venting out the dread of the situation, imagine today, that i am on the 30th day mark and the incompetent company has not even shown their faces to try and fix the problem.
And its not only me but thousands of people just in my country and millions across the world, even if i had to watch 1 ad or 2 ads every hour i would be ok with that.
thanks for the update, i think this is a really good project ... if they can pull it of, like you said speed has always been the issue when a lot of people are connected at the same time. hoping for the best
When is the ico going live??
Hey @premkumarroy, it is currently live; I believe it ends in mid-May with the roadmap showing exchange listings for mid/late June.
just hearing of this, been waiting for such a project, its going to be a total game changer. thanks for the info @biddle
Thank you for a great read on @world.wi-fi!

I have invested in several ICOs, but this looks something that cannot be avoided. Gonna read the whitepaper soon.
