Introduction

It is well known that if one who is sick visits a hospital, there would certainly be records made. But what if attempts at acquiring treatment is not possible in one hospital; resulting to a transfer of patients to another hospital, what obtains is that the same medical examination would be carried out, probably also run tests which have be previously done at the former hospital. This is because the current hospital has no prior knowledge of the examinations that was carried out in the previous hospital. This patient information in most cases is not transferable to another hospital basically because it is difficult to exchange records between different hospital systems due to its incompatibility issues.

As of today, many hospitals around the world utilize centralized servers to store medical records. Data sharing opportunities among healthcare professionals is highly restricted and reduces the opportunity of sourcing for third-party opinions and counsel to better care for individuals. An important criteria is laws, such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), which enables the centralization of health records and prohibit the sharing of the much said data. Without proper knowledge of a patient’s health status attributed to limited access of their private records, those caretaking patients (e.g., doctors, emergency medical service workers, researchers) are unable to provide adequate medical care.

Sequel to that, medical records today are solely managed by healthcare practitioners instead of the patients themselves. Now this may not be much of an issue to some people but can the same be said for those who don’t visit nor have the means of seeing a regular doctor? I guess not, which is a big problem. This is so because a patients’ medical record would be being scattered all over and accessing such data from one healthcare provider by another usually takes a lot of time, which means the patient has to wait a longer time to receive medical care. A great disadvantage to end users by a flawed modern health care system.

MediBloc is an open source decentralized healthcare data management platform built entirely on the Ethereum blockchain. Due to its decentralized nature, patients, medical practitioners and researchers can openly interact because blockchain technology allows it to track and record everything pertaining to one’s healthcare world. Now I can track my medical data and all other sensitive health related information because MediBloc has accumulated all these into a single data bank which I can reliably share to whichever expert I want to privately.

How does MediBloc work?

The MediBloc platform is a decentralized app (DApp) developed on the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The EVM has three components that address important areas of the entire functioning process of the system; the Core, Service and App layers.

Each layer is designed to hold vital information and process data when necessary. The Core layer safeguards the users medical information stored within the system using new encryption protocols that locks all records with the aid of a private key, only the patient has access to. Since blockchain storage is limited, the Core layer supplies extra storage to counter healthcare data loss
The Service layer acts as the middleman between the App and Core layers; its duties. facilitating seamless data exchange and smart contract execution on the MediBloc ecosystem. Using Smart Contract technology, it allows for data input/output through connection with the Core layer.
While the Application layer allows the users access to various apps e.g mobile apps, for easy control of personal data and manage the information effectively

MediBloc's Working Principle

The Medi Point system (MP)

The platform will utilize the Medi Point system which is a user participation points based system. Medi Point system (MP) will automatically tracks user participation and dole out relevant incentives and rewards accordingly. To obtain higher MP, one can purchase it with MED or contribute to the data network. After collecting MP’s and undergoing a waiting period of three months, you can then convert your MP to MED. The MED token can be used in medical transactions such as insurance payments and unlike MED tokens, MP’s are used in the verification process so they will not leave the platform.

MediBloc Account

There are three different account types available on the MediBloc platform

• General users
• Healthcare providers (practioners,institutions)
• Data researchers

Each of these accounts would have various roles and jurisdiction in the MediBloc ecosystem with specifics in the table below.

Health care providers and data researchers are obliged to present proof of their certificate as can be seen from above. Also we can see that considerations have been granted for cases where the patient is unable to run his own medi platform. His family members can then assume mangement of his/her account on their behalf.

Use case

Mr Effiong has a family relation who was diagosed of terminal illness. Being in charge of her MediBloc account, he wishes to know if his insurance company can cover the cost. Ordinarily, he would have to go to their site to confirm but with MediBloc's insurance claims and evaluations already automated with smart contracts, he can easily do so from wherever he is, easier and faster. He then checks and is billed through that MediBloc account.

Token Model

MediBloc which is Qtum-based, will issue Medi Token (MED) following the QRC token standard (Qtum equivalent to Ethereum ERC20). This would be the main source of socio economic exchange in the MediBloc platform and it is the hub element which grants users the ability to interact with various layers of the platform. The Medi Token can aslso be used for exchanges outside of the MediBloc platform

Token Generation Event

The goal sought to be achieved by MED generation is to build MediBloc platform and in the process, develop a robust heathcare ecosystem. The plan is to fund with Bitcoin and Ethereum.

We plan to make funding with Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) available and the information on accurate conversion ratio for each cryptocurrency will
be available on official communication channels (our website, Slack, Facebook) and participants can access Tokens by following the “MED Token Sale Terms and Condition”. 50% of the Tokens will be granted to TGE participants. Approximately 20% of the total token volume is used for the purpose of developing MediBloc. The remaining 20% will go to the
