As we all know, the Ethereum DAO was rendered invalid by a hacker who used a simple duping exploit that was left in the un-audited contract. It costed many of us a fortune. It affected the reputation of many of the most well known figures in blockchain technology. It affected many of us here, directly and indirectly. It commanded us to take a closer look at the security and economic structures enabled by modern crypto-currency.
And we are the wiser because of it. But it would have perhaps been cheaper to carefully examine The Prophecy by @dan
