Associated British Ports Working on Blockchain for Port Logistics

in #crypto-news6 years ago

The foremost port operator in the UK, the Associated British Ports (ABP), has inked an agreement with digital logistics enabler Marine Transport International to work on blockchain use for port logistics.

This is according to a report on Dry Bulk magazine.

Under the arrangement with Marine Transport International, ABP — which functions in 21 ports and conducts 25 percent of the cargo shipments in Great Britain — would get involved in pilot shipments utilizing blockchain technology.

The report cited that each party in ABP’s supply chain does not have a connection with others, as port operators, carriers, and shippers make use of various systems. As a blockchain solution for port logistics could lessen the time spent on the manual assessment of scattered data, Jody Cleworth, founder and CEO of Marine Transport International, said:

“With blockchain, we can connect all those systems to ensure data is accurately and quickly shared, helping speed-up and simplify the flow of trade in and out of the UK.”
