In the beginning, games were pay-to-play, built with arcades in mind. Later, through experimentation and pioneering business models, we had free-to-play, which also monetises through an in-game economy of digital goods and these were tightly controlled by the game developers.
But play-to-earn is a new paradigm, it is based on creating real-world value out of in-game assets and other forms of digital goods using non-fungible tokens, cryptocurrencies and other blockchain technologies.
So, instead of buying a game, the game pays you to play it and rewards you with built-in incentives for your time.

A blockchain game (also known as a NFT game or a crypto game) is a video game that includes elements that use blockchain technologies. Blockchain elements in these games are most often based on the use of cryptocurrency or non-fungible tokens (NFTs) which players can buy, sell, or trade with other players, with the game publisher taking a fee from each transaction as a form of monetization. In some cases, players of blockchain games have earned enough to pay for costs of living, making these games also known as play-to-earn games. While blockchain games have been available since 2017, blockchain games have only gathered the attention of the video game industry in 2021, with several triple-A publishers having expressed strong intent to explore their potential, as well as criticism from players, developers, and companies within the game industry.

Afriguld is a community of gamers who intend to earn as they play various game. Afriguld was created as a means of introducing and engaging Africans in the various opportunities available in their play-to-earn model. The community looks to empower Africans into financial freedom through Blockchain, Defi and NFTs. Allowing Africans to be a part of the global revolution.
Launched in September 2021 in Offa,a small town in Nigeria, Afriguild community has grown to have a community of over 1000 gamers. The community averages about 10 players onboarding weekly.

Getting into Afriguild community

• Join the discord channel here
• Visit the apply-and-select-role! Channel to fill the application form
• Enter your details correctly in the application form and submit. You will be contact by a member of the Afriguild team for an interview.

• Don’t fret, the interview is just about the team getting to know more about you

• Select the game you are interested in playing, if you can handle more than one you are allowed to select more than one game.
• If you pass the interview, you will be assigned the ‘novice’ role on the discord channel
• Check to know more about the performance metrics used to promote community members and work towards achieving the set-out targets. Promotions are done on every Monday, so if you achieved the requirements for promotion before the end of the week, you’ll have to wait till Monday before you can be promoted to the next role.

The community hosts two meetings where the community come together and discuss
The first is called “~ Clinic ~”, the clinic is where members in the community learn different gameplay skills to help them improve their performance int he game. This way the community ensures that the gamers are well informed about the game and this way the community maximises the potential of the gamers.
The second meeting is called “~ Townhall meeting ~”, the community discuss ways they can improve the community. Here, everyone has the opportunity to ask questions, raise suggestions on how they feel the community should progress.

The community hosts several competitions where community members battle one another to hone their skills and also battle to claim the juicy prices that are up for grabs for anyone that performs best in the competition.
