-Opinions –

  1. Sometimes it’s nice to have a quality driver that I know has a clean car no older than 7 years and a traceable service. Sometimes, personally most times, I just want a cheap ride. As a 26 year old male who doesn’t carry expensive belongings, I feel quite safe getting into a strangers car in my hometown. This will not be the case for most women, elderly, and young adults. The familiarity of the location will greatly bias one’s trust for this system. If you are in a new town, it will be more difficult to take a leap of faith rather than a town or city you know. If you are willing to pay more for security, then you can take Uber. The goal of this app is cheap and easy. I see a niche, not a takeover of Uber, Lyft, or other taxi services.

  2. A free and transparent market will play itself out and determine fair prices. Trust the free market.

  3. Cryder is a system free from algorithm manipulation which can affect surge pricing based off groups of Uber drivers banning together.

  4. Trading protection for anonymity - One of the reasons people began to trust Uber was because the route information was stored online. If a rider didn’t bring you to your destination, Uber would be able to track them – thus providing a strong level of security and comfort to new users. I remember my mother was terrified of getting into a random person’s car (the first time I told her about Uber), the fact that Uber headquarters watches her trip and the driver the whole time quickly calmed her nerves.

  5. Lots of possibilities for foreign countries where there is no ride share options due to laws and regulations. Citizens in these countries could quickly adopt a program like Cryder.

  6. There is strong potential for adoption during peak times for Uber and Lyft. If the consumers demand lower prices during these times, then drivers will succumb.

  7. A lot of kids don’t have cars that qualify for Uber, especially as that date continues to roll (no older than seven years). If you drove Uber for the last couple of years and now your car is too old, you may switch to Cryder to maintain your lifestyle without having to purchase a new vehicle.

  8. Bad publicity could kill this app very quickly. One abduction while using this app could bring regulations against it. Unfortunately, in the world we live in today, this should be a major concern.

  9. Overall, I like this idea and will absolutely give the app a try when it’s out, given the right circumstances. I will not delete my Uber app, but depending on the service that I get using Cryder, it may become a main stay.

Nice article.

I think the main issue is what you rightly stated: security. There is no security in this system. But maybe there is a solution.

What about a system of reviews associated with some other blockchain company like Civic? Or just do it on their own, where the ID you register is unmutable. If you want to change your ID, you will lose all of your reviews.

You have 1 ID, you need that to be a driver on Cryder. You get reviews, also on the blockchain, and users can decide whether they want to ride or not. Just like airbnb. On airbnb, if you go to someones place and they kill you and bury you in their garden, no one will ever find out, if no one misses you.
