Have a Real Working Prototype

There are so many concepts being published on Kickstarter and/or social media that don’t go being basic sketches. If you hope to get funding, you need to have a physical product that can be used in actual demonstrations.

Software suites like Blender or Solidworks can be used to help plan out your prototype. You may also work with invention experts to set up a prototype if you lack the expertise.

At the very least, you should have some well thought out models made in your mechanical design software so people have a concept of what you are going to make. Still, it’s not a good sign when people see your invention without it is used in a photo or video.

An Exact & Realistic Budget

To get your project off the ground, you must have a minimal amount of resources so you don’t miss deadlines and disappoint your backers. For a physical invention, this will certainly go beyond the cost of manufacturing & distribution.

Your social media marketing, customer support, and having money in case of defects or recalls should also come into consideration. If your product will have a service backend, you should also keep in mind support costs and leave room for it to scale. Plan a Campaign Length

The initial reception of your product by the general public is quite critical for the longevity of your product. You will need to have a good window of opportunity from collecting money from contributors to the manufacturing and shipping of the said product.

Stay Active on Social Media

If you don’t have a presence on all top social media channels, you need to get on it right away. Most crowdfunding campaigns are not even discoverable within the platforms themselves, so you need to garner most traffic from social campaigns.

If you have trouble catching wind of the right crowd, you may also advertise your product on various influencer accounts. It can be kind of difficult to sway an influencer, so you can either outsource this part to get someone on board.
