Crowdfunding: Milaap Vs BitGiving

In this post I would like to differentiate between two Crowdfunding websites in India Milaap and BitGiving. The major difference is Milaap is available for both lending and donating funds but BitGiving is available only for donations through campaigns . Both Milaap and BitGiving a very good platform for NGO’s and Social developers to go in to public and make their contribution for better cause.

Pricing:

We need to understand why any website which is supporting social causes needs to charge money, as we all know there are hidden charges from payment gateways, cost in hosting and maintain the website and both the companies have dedicated employees who will support in their daily operations so they will have operational expenses.

Milaap:

Milaap has three pricing categories named “Do it yourself”, “Assist”, and “Amplify”.
Do it yourself is designed for individuals and small NGO’s in which they charge 5% of total funds raised through Milaap and Payment gateway charges are extra. Assist is designed for Corporates and people who want to get benefits of Tax by doing social campaigns. Milaap charge 8% of total funds raised through Milaap and Payment gateway charges are extra. Amplify is designed for special campaigns which is solely decided by Milaap team. This is around 2.3% for payments made in INR and 2.9% + 30c for payments made in USD.

BitGiving:

BitGiving also has three pricing categories named “Social”, “Creative”, and “Entrepreneurial”.
Social campaign is designed for NGOs, social projects, and other forms of initiatives. BitGiving charges 6% of total funds raised form its platform. Creative campaign is designed to promote art projects, social events or other forms of creative projects. BitGiving charges 8% of total funds raised form its platform. Entrepreneurial is designed for or innovations, products, apps, websites and other things that can be pre-sold. In Both Entrepreneurial & Creative campaigns, If complain is not collecting funds as planned them BitGiving will charge 10%. Additional Taxes applicable such as GST (Goods and Service Tax).

Number of Field Partners:

In BitGiving there are total of 70 verified NGO’s and Social Development Organizations. In Milaap there is complete different system as any individual can raise funds for any social awareness issues. It has both Lending and campaigns in lending category Milaap has well established field partners which are mainly financial institutes and NGO’s from all parts of India. If you are individual, corporate or an NGO you can start social campaign in both Milaap and BitGiving. But if you want to support individuals by lending them to become self-sustain then Milaap in the option for you.

Mode of Payments Accepted:

Bitgiving accepts contribution only in INR and Milaap accepts both INR and USD Milaap has is US website which is MilaapUSA.org. On the other hand both the organizations will accept international cards with different currencies. In order to contribute one should register and select appropriate payment methods.

Both the website provide options like Credit/Debit Card and internet Banking, But Milaap offers options like UPI and Cheques.

This is my review of crowdfunding websites in India. If I am missing anything or analysed wrong please let me know I am happy to correct it
