Planning to take on actions

in #crochet7 years ago (edited)

A few years ago I was living in Montreal, Qc. A city too big for me. One day I took the metro (underground train) and saw a man with two boys and groceries. One boy was acting out and the man was having a hard time keeping him calm and to stay put. So I went to talk to him. The calm boy was his son and the other was his nephew. Found out we were getting off at the same stop so I offered to help him, I take his groceries so he can deal with the two boys better. Walked a ways to his apartment, handed him his groceries, he thanks me and wanted to give me his phone number lol. He wanted to return the favor in a more intimate way. And here I am thinking, how is it that a stranger randomly helps another through kindness alone, in turn for that kind of reward? its insane!
Another time I was at another metro station, about to meet up with some friends, but Im unsure of which direction to take. There must have been at least 15 people I tried asking for help and everyone just ignored me. I didnt understand until i realized that it probably had to do with what I was wearing, looking a little more on the goth side... black skirt, tank top... omg I got upset. I decided to try again. A lady, I tried asking. Walked right past me. I yelled. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME DIRECTIONS! That same lady turned around and said: OH! All you wanted was directions? Um yaaaaaaa! Man oh man was that ever difficult!
So many things happened in that city, it was destroyed. I was labelled a lesbian at work because I was nice. My car stalled at a traffic light and no one asked if I needed help, instead just yelled at me. It is so nuts! I couldnt keep up, I moved.
A couple of days ago I fell upon @lyndsaybowes blog about #OpHumanAngels. Ever awesome! About random acts of kindness to others, to strangers. I love helping people. It has always been a part of me and sometimes too much in the past lol If more and more people were to take action on being kind to others like this, maybe it wouldnt be so hard to help and get help.
And so this new adventure begins. I am planning on the many different things I can do to uplift other people. One idea has been given to me by someone I know. She crochets scarves and hangs them up on posts or railings in town for others that are in need to grab. I would like to do the same. I travel to 3 different towns. I think this would be a great start. I live up north so the winters can be quite cold and whether it be a homeless or less fortunate person that grabs it or another individual that forgot their hat at home, I will be thrilled that someone is warm because of kindness.
I dont travel daily as its always a 30 min drive to get to town. So that gives me time to work up a few things.
Another way is baking!! :D Bringing some homemade baked goods to retirement homes. They dont get the chance to bake anymore like they use to. Why not bring a box to share with everyone ^_^
Im not sure if this is the way to do it with OpHumanAngels but it is for now a few I can think of and enjoy doing.
Lets start brightening peoples days!
