STUDIO TIME // Homage to the old town , pigeons and Ivo Robić // Good Ivo

in #croatia7 years ago

Weee, it's been a hell of a month.

I've done a 12 day European tour with my band Seine. It was awesome, and I wrote about it here on steemit. You can read about it if you want.

We are preparing for our home town concert on Thursday. We are working on some new songs, and overall it's really cool.

My other band Radost! has published our fourth album on vinyl. The first one on that media. We're really happy.

I'm currently in the making of one of the best Croatian pop songs in the history of the world. It's an English cover of a legendary Croatian song, as @bonvivan said.

Yesterday I've finished producing another song by a couple of friends. We've worked before together, and it's always fun and awesome. They come by every couple of months with a new song, and we have some fun with it. I think the reason why it always works is not because of the quality of the recording or the mix, but the process of arranging and playing with the song.

This song has a very interesting theme. It's an omage to Ivo Robić. An old Croatian singer songwriter who had a domestic and international career through almost his whole life. During the 60's he was famous for some international hit songs in collaboration with Bert Kamepfert who also wrote "Strangers in the night" (1966).

He sang the Yugoslav and German versions Stranci u Noći with lyrics by Marija Renota and Fremde in der Nacht with lyrics by Kurt Feltz. Robić's other international hits are "Muli-Song" (1960), "Mit 17  fängt das Leben erst an" (1960), "Ein ganzes Leben lang" (1962), "Rot  ist der Wein" (1966), and "Ich zeig' dir den Sonnenschein" (1971).

One of the most beautiful songs by Ivo Robić is "Golubovi" ("Pigeons"). It's a beautiful song about his love for the city of Zagreb and it's old school character, and it's "feathery pilots" that are a crucial part of it's image and scenery.

My friends made a song about him and that love. The idea was to try to get in the feeling of those old times. To pay respects to it, and acknowledge the inevitable disappearance of those images and values.

I really like this one, and can't wait to do another song with them. Even tho' the recording could've been done better, I think that we got the atmosphere in it pretty well as well as the quotes.

I translated the lyrics for you, so here you go :)

Only Ivo loves the pigeons
Only he sang them songs
And he watches them as they wave
Those swift feathery pilots

Hey good bird
Are you having a good day?
Hey good Ivo
Are you having a good dream?

Only Ivo hears the pigeons
When they coo the city in grace
And those roses, most beautiful roses
Are they still here today?

 Hey good bird
Are you having a good day?
Hey good Ivo
Are you having a good dream?
