Brazil will be Christian majority by 2020

The last census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) in 2010, concluded that the usual loss of Catholic faithful, which was around 1%, had increased markedly, while the also noted increase in evangelical believers (and to a lesser extent, citizens without a certain belief) continued to grow.
The number of evangelical Christians in the country had grown by 61% in 10 years. There were then, in 2010, 42,310,000 evangelicals in Brazil, 22.2% of the population.
Until 2020, a new official census will not be carried out, although there are periodic studies that serve to show statistical trends. Based on one of these courts, José Eustaquio Diniz, a demographer at the National School of Statistical Sciences of the IBGE, confirmed that this tendency is maintained and that "it is possible that within 10 or 15 years Brazil will no longer have a majority of the Catholic population" .
From the Faculty of Theology of the PUC-SP they consider that the practice of Catholicism in Brazil is even scarcer than the number of faithful, and that it does not reach 10% of the baptized in the Catholic Church who assiduously attend the Masses Sunday
Some data from other recent investigations also validate evangelical growth, especially in the metropolitan areas of large cities. For example, in the periphery of Sao Paulo there would be 52 evangelicals for every 100 Catholics, while in Rio de Janeiro they would be 71 for every 100.
Some reasons for the change
In 2015, the Pew Institute conducted a study of the belief landscape in Latin America with sampling in eighteen countries of the continent, including Brazil. In that study, 20% of Brazilians had been Catholic but it was no longer Catholic. The search for a "better relationship with God" was for 81% of them the cause for their change of beliefs. For 69% it was the way or style of living the faith in their new church, and for 60% the "most appropriate emphasis" on ethical issues
