Rare criminal offense is not an argument for acceptance.

One thing that does drive me nuts is the idea that the rarity of on offense is an argument for the legalization or social acceptance of the offense.

The argument, "This almost never happens." isn't an argument.

Just look up the murder statistics from Iceland over the last several years.

Iceland has had full years without a single murder. The country usually has a murder rate per 100,000 people, lower than most of the rest of the world.

Murder almost never happens in Iceland.

Is that an argument for not seeking justice for those who were murdered? Even if there's only one murder victim every couple of years, would it make sense to not punish that one murder, just because it's so rare?
