India vs Sri Lanka ODI series summary part 1

in #cricket7 years ago

After India lost the first game of the series, they proved why they are at the first position in the ODI rankings.

In the second game, Rohit Sharma broke some more records and proven once again that 200 is just a number. India started off batting first, as India were looking like they would just roll over Sri Lanka, which Dhawan and Rohits opening stand showed. They started off putting on a 115 run partnership before Dhawan got out after looking like he would make another century, but Pathirana had other ideas. Dhawan mistimed his shot and a easy catch for Thirimanne.
Shreyas Iyer came in after a dissapointing first game, and took his chance to perfection. He paced his innings brilliantly and was so near, but yet so far from his first ever century. It was joyfull to watch Shreyas bat the way he did. India loosing him just when Rohit decided to go full on assault against the Sri Lankans and took them apart. At first we never thought that Rohit would not get to his thrid double century, but as i mentioned earlier, Rohit showed us that 200 is just a number for him and made it possible by destroying the Sri Lankan bowlers. With Rohits double ton, India got to 392/4 after the 50 overs.

Sri Lanka could not really get themselves going. They were struggling to score at a quick pace and India bowled well to hold Sri Lanka down, but the target was too much for Sri Lanka. They lost one of their key players early, which is Upul Tharanga, then they could not get going really. No one from the top order carried on for them. Angelo Mathews went on and got another century in his name, but India were on song and Sri Lanka only got 251/8 after their 50 overs.
