Sachin Tendulkar : The God of Cricket

Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar was born in Mumbai, India on 24th April, 1973 in a middle class family. He is the greatest batsman of all time. He started his journey with cricket at very small age of 11 and played his first Cricket match against Pakistan at the age of 16 in 1989. He represented his state and his country for 24 years. At the age of 17 he became the 2nd youngest player to score a century in Test match. He is not only a great batsman but also a great captain. After 1996 world cup, he became captain of India National team. He managed his team as a single unit and doesn’t let his team down even after a streak of lose.  

Tendulkar is one of the greatest batsman in the world and is the pride of India. He gave hope to all the athletes and sportsmen during troubled economic time of India. He is given a title “The Last Hero” and is a symbol of hope for others. He has gained a lot of achievements and awards in his cricket career.  A brief of Achievements and Awards are mentioned below

  1. The only cricketer to have One Hundred International Centuries.
  2. The only player having score more than 34,000 runs in International Cricket.
  3. First batsman having double century in a One Day International.
  4. Greatest Number of Runs in both One Day International(ODI) and Test Cricket.
  5. The second greatest batsman of all time by Wisden Cricketers’ Almanach.
  6. In 2002, Michael Schumacher gifted a Ferrari to Tendulkar on the occasion of its 29th test century.

Awards   

  1. Tendulkar received the Arjuna Award in 1994 for his great achievements in his sport career.
  2. He received Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna award, one of the India’s Highest sporting honour in 19997.
  3. Received Padma Shri award in 1999 and Padma Vibhushan award in 2008.
  4. In 2013, Prime Minister of India announced to award him the Country’s highest honour award Bharat Ratna(Youngest person to receive this award)
  5. In 2010, at the ICC he was the cricketer of the year and received Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy.
  6. First sportsman to be Group Captain, an honourable rank, was given by India Air Force.

Tendulkar has played 664 International Cricket Matches in his career. He announced his retirement in 2012 from the ODIs(One Day Internationals) and Twenty20 in 2013 followed by taking retirement from all other Cricket Competitions around the world. He played his final Test match(200th) in November 2013 against West Indies. There is a lot to learn from this great batsman. Even gaining very high reputation and wealth in the country, he remained humble, polite and kind to others.
