Crete 2013: Samariá Gorge / Kreta 2013: Samaria-Schlucht
[English:]
In October 2013 my wife (well known here as @kobold-djawa) and I visited the island Crete which belongs to Greece. It was a very interesting and rich in variety vacation. We made so many photos that we decided to split the report about this stay in Crete into several different parts. I will start to show some photos about our walking tour through one of the longest gorges in Europe: the Samariá Gorge which has a length of about 16 km.

Here my wife was naughty enough to make a snapshot from behind without letting me know or asking for permission! :)
Cretan goats (Capra aegagrus cretica), also called kri-kri, normally are rather shy, but in the Samariá Gorge they became adjusted to wanderers and obviously they like to be fed from my wife. |
Sometimes a little rest can be really relaxing ...
Do you see how steep these rocks are? On top one can recognize a very small stripe of the sky.
The end of the trip is coming ... |
Das Ende der Wanderung ist in Sicht ... |
Finally we reached the south coast of Crete. From here a ferry brought us to a more civilized part of the island again.

Never seen kri-kri before, pretty adorable animals.
Yes... adorable indeed. We were pretty lucky to see them. They are normally rather timid, don't like seeing many people. Probably they were lack of foods at that time, so they came to us the hikers :)
Beautiful view and stunning rocks. :)
Yup... 16 km long, ... and walking down the stoney path started from 1250 m altitude or reverse. Some travel agent don't allow us to bring children under 8 yo (if I correctly remember it), because it 's too hard for them.
I wasn't even confident to go further... but then I saw a family with 2 children who insisted to join.
It would have been really embarrassing to me if I gave up when those 2 kids made it LOL.
So i forced my self to walk and walk and walk.
My muscle was sore for 3 days afterwards but that was indeed really worth it...
Really recommended ^_^
I should go there someday, maybe with my kids too :D
I wish I could go back there again too... I must save more money now hahaha
Wonderful pictures of mountains! I especially like the sea in the last picture, it's very beautiful and peaceful!
Thanks, my friend - nice to see your comment! :)
