Can someone explain why folks share this?

Were they being facetious?

Are they taking it as correct, and wanted to show this “interesting fact” to others? If so, why did they take a very suspiciously implausible claim as true, when it isn’t sourced credibly? And of course, it’s easy to actually check on it.

I don’t get why people do this. It’s pissing in the drinking water of our shared civic spaces.
