Pinki Debbie Sets The Latest Guinness World Record

in #creativity7 years ago (edited)

Hello! Howdy?

Just two questions!

  • Can you dance?

  • For how long precisely can you continuously dance?

Now, while most of us (including me) might be the best singers – when in the shower; and also the best dancers – while scrubbing our body, it really is something of a talent or skill to be able to continuously dance for a long time without a break, or to even sing for a lengthy period continuously.

Now think about the question again;

For how long can you continuously dance without a break?

Well, while you are actually working your brain to answer that….

Please, be informed that the record for the longest continuous dance marathon has been broken by a young Nigerian.

A 22-year old dancer and choreographer known as Pinki Debbie – real names Debbie Odumegwu, has obliterated the Guinness World Record for the “Longest Dance” by an individual.

According to various online media reports, Pinki Debbie broke the previous record which was held by an Indian, Kalamandalam Hemaletha.

Kalamandalam Hemaletha’s record stood at 123 hours 15 minutes of continuous dancing - which is approximately 5 days of non-stop dancing. Hemaletha set the dancing record back in 2010. She danced from September 20th to September 26th to set the record at the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi in India, in 2010.

However, Nigeria’s Pinki Debbie in Lagos, on Wednesday, 22nd November, 2017, broke the record.

After breaking the previous record, Debbie continued dancing and pushed further to set the new record for the World’s highest ever dancing marathon, by dancing for a total of 150 hours, which is approximately 7 days. (OMG!)

The 22-year-old, who started dancing when she was 6-years-old, is a graduate of Policy and Strategic Studies from a Nigerian University in Ogun State.

Pinki Debbie commenced her record breaking feat at The Palms Shopping Mall, Victoria Island, Lagos State, Nigeria, on the 17th of November and set the record on Friday, 24th November.

An incredible feat, I must admit. Dancing for 30 minutes to an hour seems like an ordeal, let alone 150 hours?

A previous attempt to break the World record for the longest dance was made by another Nigerian, Joshua Marcus Usoro aka Jason, earlier this year between the 20th - 28th of August, 2017.

But Jason withdrew from his quest to conquer his Guinness world record attempt due to unforeseen circumstances (as stated by his team), after just 63 hours 15mins.

Jason was at the time, also attempting to break this same world record at the Circle Mall in Lekki, Lagos, for the “Longest Dance Marathon by an Individual.”

Pinki Debbie’s feat puts her in the elite league of top Nigerian Guinness record holders;

  • Nigeria's famous and talented Choreographer and Dancer Kaffy, set the record for the Longest Dance Party at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon in 2006.
  • DJ Obi set the record for the Longest DJ set play in 2016.

Does that mean she didn't sleep for those hours?

I actually wondered too @greenrun.
But going through details of the previous records, I don't think she slept. That would apparently negate the continuous marathon concept of the record.

Well, that's a tough record. People have been known to go without sleep for up to 11 days+ but definitely not while dancing!

Yea....you are very right. It deserves the attention it gets by the likes of Guinness, because it is quite unbelievable.

That's dedication and passion at play right there. Congratulations to her.
