This week-end some friends came at home to give a new life to our old camel!

My father-in-law had received this camel sculpture as a gift a few years ago.
It is a wrought iron sculpture, originally made as a support for the climbing plants garnish it.

The problem was that after the big drought of this summer, the climbing plant died.

So our friends decided to give a second life to this dear camel!

We first prepared the clay!

What is it made of?

We made a mixture of earth, clay, water and straw.

The camel's structure already contained stones to help to fix the clay.
But it was still necessary to add straw to create a more consistent mass.
It's advisable to make the mass on a tarpaulin to not lose water and to mix the materials more easily.

You can mix it with your feet or your hands!
It's very fun to do and it's a nice feeling on the skin.

When the mixing is done, we distributed it uniformly over the camel's surface.

Roughly abort to plug the holes and then smoothing the surface with our hands and some water.

Then we can count a few days to let the clay drying.

If it's raining, it's necessary to cover the statue with a tarpaulin during this drying days.

It seems that to be in contact with the earth and to model it makes us happier. It's a bit like a therapy, a good physical and emotional feeling shared in order to create together.
