Wing motion – Marianne Cosplay

in #creativity8 years ago

I had a few people interested in seeing the wings in motion so I’ve got two clips to show you what it looks like. =D

(a friend, his dad, and me)

This first one was recorded by APG Media at Wellington Armageddon Expo in 2016 during the cosplay parade. Cosplayers are called up on stage, strike a few poses, and walk off the other end of the stage. It's a cool way to go on stage with your cosplays without the pressure of it being a contest since it's all just for fun. =)

This second one was the very first time I tried on the full outfit. It was at my University in Palmerston North a couple of weeks before the expo the first clip was taken at.

To give you a quick overview of how the wings work: the windscreen wiper motor gives a circular motion to which I've attached a central beam. As the motor spins the beam goes up and down. To this beam I've attached two separate arms with pivot points that cause the arms to go up and down as the beam moves. The wings don't run at exactly the same time because of this, but the difference isn't very noticeable in the finished product. To make them work I had a button hidden under my outfit and as long as I press it down the motor spins causing the wings to move. A bit of practise with the timing and they work like a charm (that's why they were a little bit 'freezy' in the 2nd video since I was still getting used to them). =)

Hope you enjoyed seeing the wings in motion and I can't wait to share the next winged cosplay with you guys. =D

This is so cool! I clicked on this because it looked so interesting but when I read that you are from Palmerston North I had to comment— I am from the sister city in Montana, USA, and I used to manage the sister city program years ago. :). We had guests visit us back then , the Mayor at the time and a Maori chief and his wife. It was very memorable and so that is why I got excited to see your location. Take care and have a wonderful new year.

Thanks! Awesome to hear you used to manage that program in Palmerston North! Hope you also had an awesome new years. =)

Great videos! Perfect timing on wings, sword & stern face :)

Thanks! I had a ton of fun at that event and can't wait to go again this year with a new set of wings! =D
