HOLINESS AS A SHIELD (DRAMA MINISTERS)

Story-line:

A short play that highlights the fact that living a holy christian life devoid of sin is all we need to shield us from every evil attack of the enemy.

Chioma. - a born again Sister
Lynda. - her neighbor
2 Angels - (clad in all-white with a white hood)
A demon. - (Clad in black with black hand gloves and possibly a mask)

SCENE 1

(Chioma is stepping out of her room on her way to Church and meets Lynda outside who is brushing her hair in front of her door)
Lynda: Na wa ooo today no go easy oo, am going to rock that my new sugar daddy very well.......
I must make sure he screams my name tonight... . yesterday that other man did not know where he was (laughs) he was just moaning "Rock me very well" .... let me go and change and get ready for tonight's gig abeg" (Chioma comes across her on her way out).
CHIOMA: Lynda! Lynda! Good evening, how are you doing?"
Lynda: I am fine Chioma (still busy brushing her hair)
Chioma: You are really looking gorgeous, its like you're going out?
Lynda: As you can see, am zapping out right now.
Chioma: But you cannot seriously be going out with this skimpy skirt and strapless top that threatens to pour out your breasts any second, it is an abomination.
Lynda: (angrily) Hey! Hey! Just hold your mouth there! Skimpy what? Look who's talking, just go and look at yourself in the mirror and tell me what you see, oh I will save you the trouble, you look like a grandmother, yes, a very old-fashioned grandmother at that, with your studious head-tie, Mary-Amaka long gown, no make-up, a handbag from the early 20s and a dead slippers!! That's how you would rather have me dress right? Wrong!! God forbid!!! Just leave me alone and go to your daily church service okay? (Turns her back and continues her make-up)
Chioma: If you have finished abusing me, I thank you and may God bless you and deliver you from the shackles of darkness, keep on going but I know that God will set you free one day (moves away singing a worship song)
Lynda: It is you that needs deliverance from darkness of Mary-Amaka gown! (Storms into her room) Both exit.

SCENE 2:

... Lynda is back from her late-night partying and lies down to catch some sleep.
Lynda: ( having a monologue as she comes in)... I really dealt with that sugar daddy tonight, chai, he ended up calling me his wife's name, confusion enter his head one time! (laughs heartily). He even promised to buy me Range Rover Sport Car. Imagine. Well, after a night well spent, let me lie down and get some sleep becos like they say, tomorrow is another day.
Same Place (while she is asleep, a demon dressed in all black, possibly with a mask, complete with a cane, bow and arrow and machete gives her spiritual flogging, cuts her and shoots her some imaginary arrows. She wakes up a couple of hours later groaning and lamenting about the attacks she got in her sleep.
Lynda: Hey, what is this? Look at scratch marks on my body, is it cockroach that bit me? No, no, no, I'm very sure its all those witches and wizards from my village! Chai, look at me oo, let me go and meet Chioma, my neighbour ooo, this one that I'm seeing is too much for me ( she runs out towards Chioma's house).

Scene 3:

(Chioma is back from her church service and lies down to sleep)
Chioma: I thank God for this wonderful evening. His glory truly came down in our midst and many people were filled with the Holy Ghost, that is indeed what you get when you fellowship with God in spirit and in truth. Let me rest a bit before I wake up to break my fast. (as soon as she sleeps off, the same demon comes to attack her but two angels in all white are holding a form of shield which may be constructed with an iron net with HOLINESS written and tagged all over it .... the demon tries his arrow and cane to no effect and as he tries to cut her with the machete, he experiences a kind of shock or fire that pushes him down and he runs away.
Same Place: Chioma wakes up refreshed and almost immediately Lynda barges in.
Chioma: (yawns) Oh I am so energized after this rest, Lord I thank you for this sleep, let me get ready to go to church for the corporate breaking of fast.
Lynda barges in panting!
Lynda: Chioma! Chioma! I'm dead oo, see my skin, scratches everywhere.
Chioma: (alarmed) Lynda! What is going on? Calm down, tell me what is wrong.
Lynda: (a little calmer now) I just came back from the Club and lay down to get some sleep, I just felt somebody was kicking me in my sleep, slapping me, beating me up and down, chai Chioma my Sister, when I woke up, see all the scratches on my body, it was as if trailer climbed all over my body.
Chioma: Calm down Lynda, it is a clear evidence of a demonic attack, I have been telling you that if you keep living a sinful life, the enemy will be attacking you always and they will always succeed but once you flee from sin, your life of holiness will become your shield, your defence against demonic attacks.
Lynda: Chioma, pls I want to live a holy life. I don't want to continue with this kind of attacks, if not, they will kill me one day, pls what should I do?
Chioma: Just give your life to Jesus Christ and accept Him as your Lord and personal Saviour, then you must resolve not to go back to sin anymore.
Lynda: Chioma, I am ready to follow Jesus Christ and live Holt.
Chioma: If you are sure, then repeat these words - Lord Jesus, I come before you as a sinner and want you to be my personal Lord and Saviour, please wash away my sins with your precious blood and help me not to go back to sin anymore. (Lynda repeats the words).
Chioma: Go and sin no more, the Lord be with you in Jesus name. Amen
Lynda: Thank you Chioma. Pls if you don't mind, I will wait for you to follow you to Church because I know you are on your way to Church.
Chioma: Yes my Sister, as a matter of fact, I am ready to go, come on then.
Both exit.
