Vicenta was born in a dysfunctional home, only she, an older brother and her mother: Fita, a short, black woman, with all racial characteristics well differentiated and Vicenta was white.
-Being black is a nightmare-, Vicenta said. -People look at you with distrust, contempt and even fear ... Rafael and I, we're sorry. He always protected me, but the fight was difficult, although he was darker than me, they always attacked me by calling me "white cockroach" and I didn't understand why people had different colors.
At home, each had a different skin color, until his mother became entangled with a very dark man and they began to bring many small children of color to the world, all very dark, living in extreme poverty and who knows what other degrading things . -Those blacks were bad-, Vicenta told me. That's why he swore that when he grew up he would never fall in love with a black man.
It seems that when he saw that in his house the only white was his daughter, Vicenta's father decided to take her out of that environment, taking her away from Fita, to give her to her eldest daughter: Fina, who was already married and could not have children. That's how Vicenta came to a good home, where she was no longer one and was respected and loved. Her older sister, her father's daughter in her marriage, became her mother and her husband became her father.
Vicenta was loved so much by "the old ones", as she called them, that they tried to recognize her as her own daughter and discovered that she was recognized by her biological father and nobody knew. - He recognized me because I left white, you calculate. And yet, Rafael, no, and that was the oldest.
Once he told me that he was approached, "wench", many "good men", but they had a defect in their eyes: they were black. Then he rejected them saying that she would not do that to her children, that she had to improve the race. Therefore, he set his eyes on Juanchi who, with all his defects and ill-treatment, was white with straight hair and light eyes.
