The Low Hanging Fruit

It’s blackberry season now and I have about all the blackberries that I can possibly eat. I don’t bother picking half of them. If I want more than are growing in my backyard I can easily find them growing somewhere wild around here.

Before this the blueberries were available and before that the raspberries. Soon there maybe another round of raspberries in my yard and the huckleberries will start to ripen in the woods around here, if they haven’t already. Not that many people are out picking them. It seems that many people would rather purchase berries in the store.

If you like berries and are willing to put out a bit of time and effort picking them you can live in an abundance of them.

Later in the fall the low hanging fruit will all be gone and it will take more effort to find ripe berries. (That’s when the spiders come out and start harvesting all the fruit flies living off the over ripe berries.)

My point is that in nature there is always a season for something and there is usually way more than you yourself need and if you miss the boat on something there are many opportunities that still come up.

I suppose I kind of missed the boat on getting the low hanging fruit on bitcoin. Someone else was mining that way before I got interested. By the time I did get interested I took one look at things and figured it was worth getting in first on some of these other cryptocurrencies that were not discovered as yet. After all, a blockchain is a blockchain right? I thought that some of the newer blockchains operate more efficiently doing the same job on less energy so everyone should be interested in them too.

I’m not sure if my investment strategy has worked as well as I liked. Bitcoin keeps going up and up while other seemingly better technologies languish and the amount of energy it takes to mine one bitcoin keeps going up along with the price...

It feels as if the blackberry harvest is nearly over and everyone is slicing up the last available blackberries into little tiny partitions worth hundreds of dollars each while most of the early harvest is stuck in someones freezer somewhere. (Bitcoin cold storage amounts for some of the early miners is incredible.)

One of these days I hope my ship will come in and something that I’ve been doing will pay off.

Maybe I should open a Blackberry Exchange…

Hypothetical conversation:

Customer asks, “How much for the .03 parts of the BLACKB?”

Exchange said, “That will be $354.50 at todays exchange rate.”

Customer said, “Sounds like a deal - here’s a thousand dollars of my hard earned savings.”

Transactions happen…

Customer said, “My account is frozen, why can’t I get my BLACKB off the exchange?”

“Because of government KYC requirements you need to send us a picture of yourself holding your drivers license. We have had to freeze your BLACKB.”

Customer asks, “By the time I get my BLACKB next years harvest will be in and who knows what the price of BLACKB will be. I want my BLACKB unfrozen and mixed with ice cream now please.”

Okay, so maybe I shouldn’t open a Blackberry Exchange, it seems like there is something a wee bit wrong with making a profit even if you drop all support for trading an asset and freeze people’s assets – but it is what it is I suppose. :D

Not that I’m bashing all the Exchanges out there, we do badly need the service they provide but anytime you have centralized control you can run into some issues.

I hope you enjoyed my story. I doubt the so called alt-coin winter will last too much longer but chime in and give your opinion if you are so inclined.
