Pegasus. Drawing with oil paints

Today I want to show my drawing with oil paints on watercolor paper.
I decided to draw a majestic Pegasus, a favorite of muses, a winged horse from ancient Greek mythology. In Greek Pegasus means a stormy current. According to the myths, this horse flew like the wind and the blow of his hoof to the ground knocked out the sources from which the poets drew great inspiration.
I drew with oil paints on paper. Used high quality «Thorshon» paper (it consists of 100 % cotton).

So, let's move on to the drawing.
Drew countours with pencil. It is not necessarily to erase pencil lines, because working with oil allows you to cover any lines.

I impregnated the paper with a transparent layer of paint. At this stage, the impregnation process is very important because this paper will allow the layers to be applied better. I painted only the horse at this step, because the painted background can get dirty and ruin the picture in the process. And ignored the shadows at this stage, because the layer of paint is rather light and transparent.

With dry brush (and small addition of solvent), I drew the shadows and some details of the drawing. I tried to draw all the muscles of Pegasus to show his power and beauty. It was not so simple, because the format of the drawing is very small (17х24 cm) but the brush is not the smallest.

At this stage, I paid attention to the drawing of wings, along with other details of the horse.
As you can see, I added cold blue and violet in the shadows (like the color of the background), for light I used a yellowish-white color and in those places where the lightest is absolutely white without impurities. Usually pure white color is poorly played on the pictures, it is good to use it with a light admixture of other colors (even for glare). I made the background on the picture rather dark and the boiling white in the reflexes looks good on contrast.

Pegasus is also a constellation of the northern hemisphere of the star sky, and I decided to put the winged horse in the space. For the background I take the usual blue color without any impurities.

I refined details on the sky, made a starry «haze» and drew the stars. A few more final touches and my drawing is ready!
