Mad World....
The things we do to animals and the cruel nature of humanity.
With this image I have made I wanted to show just how messed up the human race can be. I have done this by taking the well loved children's character Mickey Mouse and attached a human ear to his back. This actually happened in a laboratory in the U.S in 1997 and was the inspiration for this piece. I made this image about two or three years ago but recently revisited the subject with the piece seen here below.
Product Placement
I was surprised by the level of marketing involved with Beats by Dr Dre headphones. Every rap and Hip-Hop video on youtube seemed to have a sly bit of product placement. This lead to a mass brainwashing of children and adults alike. Everyone got behind the head phones because of the level of 'cool' Dr Dre lent to his own PRODUCT. This lead to Dre selling the company for a whopping 3 billion to Apple.
Dre created Beats popularity by placing the headphones in music videos to appeal to young and impressionable children. Also it seemed to fool adults who should have know better. Mass brain washing lead to the success of this product. It was not a hidden fact that the Beats logo used to appear at intervals throughout the songs and videos. It reminded me of that episode of Columbo. In the particular episode the cinema film roll had been spliced with subliminal images of fast food and drinks to get the cinema goers to purchase confectionary at the interlude and Columbo (the lazy eyed detective) detected the wrong doing and blew the thing wide open.
With my piece of art 'Product (Diss) placement' (seen above) I was trying to use Beats underhanded tactics against them by putting there headphones on something pretty messed up, the mutated mouse in the petri dish. I hope you enjoyed the shocking but yet playful nature of this image but now for my point. The main reason people wanted these headphones is because they had been slowly convinced that they were cool because they were to do with Dre and his Hip Hop buddy's. He sold out and sold up and that was common knowledge leaving these headphones in the hands of Apple. WHAT IS COOL ABOUT THAT? ALL THAT HARD WORK POLLUTING ALL THOSE MINDS!!?! They bought into the dream of your independence and what did they get back............. FRESHLY PACKAGED CAPITALISM. Nice one Dr Dre you are the eptimany of the word sell out.
