Floating bubble near cactus

in #creative6 years ago

After I did the washing last night I noticed a couple of bubbles still floating around. The last bubble floated dangerously near the cactus long enough for me to go and get my phone to snap quite a few photos. It was stationary there for about six minutes.

There are always cobwebs in that area of the window sill but I honestly couldn't detect any. As the photo shows you cannot see filaments or anything, ie no tricks.

It was amazing.

For the record we believe the plant is a 'ladyfinger cactus', also known as mammillaria elongata and the fowers are pink. We've propagated it from a small pot and it's quite resilient.

Wow! You captured it perfectly, nice of you to think quick like a lightning!

he he... I was quick to get my phone from a different room while thinking the bubble would probably burst in the meantime but it was still there 'floating', @jurich60

Your cactus is happy looking @cryptocariad :) And the bubble.. wow.. stationary for 6 minutes?? It sounds like twilight zone phenomenon / mystery.

That cactus is really happy inside a glass jar @marblely. One of my daughters wanted to make a fashionable terrarium last year, but she got a bit carried away with the amount of soil she included :D
I think the cactus now needs to be split again...

The six minutes suspended in mid air is an estimate really... It did last long enough for me to notice it; go to fetch the camera; take photos and, finally, go and get my hubby to check how it was possible... The bubble burst when he went out via the back door and there then was a sort of draft.

Aaah.. maybe glass jar is the trick. May I ask, how often do you water it? Mine doesn't grow that well. And sometimes it grows to a pointed tip instead of its original rounded form which is quite frustrating :(

I think putting them in the jar helped quite a bit, @marblely, as the glass had like a greenhouse effect.
I check the soil and water about once a week in the summer, but less in the winter.
I think they get that thin when they are not watered enough; perhaps if you change to a cactus (soil) compost it will give the plant and initial boost - not sure where you are based but if it's too hot I would say with the cramped conditions it might need a little more moisture ... Let me know how you get on :D

This looks very cool. I like how clearly you've captured the bubble.

Thanks @gmatthe2. It was dark and the blind was still up so I made sure that the shadow in the background would act as the background for the bubble to help it stand out, if you see what I mean...

Great and fun photo. Reminds me of one of the baby pictures we have of our older son. He was not having anything to do with the photographer so we got out some bubbles. In one of the photos if you look closely you can see a bubble floating by haha

I like bubbles... and I can imagine that happening :D @steven-patrick

Really It was amazing. This is curious. The best, you accomplish to capture the moment.

I was happy to do it and it was also like a reward for doing the washing-up @jicrochet :D

What great photographs @cryptocariad. 😁

Some of them look a bit like a hand with a finger pointing the direction for the bubble to go in. 😂

Brilliant capture!

Thank you @gillianpearce... It was quite funny how the bubble was sort of suspended in mid air as if to avoid the inevitable...
