That doesn't tell me anything new. You said that the Catholic Church is responsible for the schism between science and religion, and that fundamentalist theology pre-dates Catholicism. I said I've heard all that before, and no one who believes these things has been able to produce one shred of evidence outside of personal interpretations of bible verses that they only have in the first place compliments of the Catholic Church! It's all meticulously documented warts and all, which is why this wiki exists for us to read.
The Catholic Church was at the forefront of scientific discovery before any one else understood how important the sciences are for humanity (also well documented).
Fundamentalists say: "the bible clearly says the universe was created in six days, so it can't be more than 6000 years old since God does not lie!"
The atheist says: "all the data we have says the universe is 14 billion years old so the bible can't be true since the scientific method does not lie."
it It's precisely the fundamentalist claims to absolute knowledge even when it contradicts advanced, peer reviewed, accepted scientific discovery that is the root of the problem there. So what does the Catholic Church say?
The Catholic Church says: "Faith tells us more than we could know by reason alone, but it can’t contradict reason. Therefore if the bible seems to contradict legitimate science, then we must expand our understanding of sacred scripture. We must embrace the fact that metaphore and poetry are often used in ancient literature to convey ideas we take for granted, but our forefathers would not have understood... since God does not lie."
Science is much older than christianism lol
Greeks developped science, mathematics, medicine, philosophy etc.
The arab kept on developping it, mathematics, chemistry, medicine,astronomy up to 15th century.
In asia its same, math, logic, and science and philoshy are intricate with spirituality.
With catholics you get 15th of obscurantisme and rigid dogmarism, persecuting scientists with lot of ridiculous dogma.
Science could only develop again with free masons with the revolution in the 17th/18th century.
But before catholics, in greek time in arab world, there was never a problem between science and religion as we see it in occident because religion is catholic and against science for dogmatic reason, and free masonery is reason and science and were opposed violently by catholics for centuries, had to hide in secret societies to practice their craft.
