EU doing worse than the US on COVID?

Surely not!! But would CNN lie to us?

Still freaking out over "new cases". Meanwhile, the number of deaths (7 day MA) in the US is still down and trending down, as are hospitalizations and ICU admits. There are no "overwhelmed" hospitals anywhere in the US. There are no equipment or protective shortages.

In fact, in order to keep the "reported new deaths" as high as they are states are basically going back and calling every death they can a "COVID-related death."

The original 15-day lockdown did what it was supposed to do. It flattened the curve. But what did anyone expect when the lockdown is lifted, even a little? I mean, the lockdown didn't cause the virus to disappear.

Now that school is back in, at least some, and especially colleges (I'll be back in the classroom Monday), who wouldn't expect to find new infections?

And the "new cases" is just stupid. Suppose, for the sake of debate, we treated COVID "cases" the way we do colds, or flus, or other infectious diseases. In order to "have a case" you would have to present with with symptoms and not with just evidence of the presence of some amount of virus load. If you have a common cold virus in your body and zero cold symptoms, do you really "have a cold"?

This got out of hand in mid-March or so and shows few signs of letting up. It's stupid.

Yes, COVID is out there, and it is very dangerous to some, and we should do something useful about it to the extent that we can. But what we're doing now is just stupid on stilts.
