Cotton prices continue to rise in Brazil; Index up 5.4% in March

Cotton prices continue to rise in Brazil.webp

In a recent meeting to assess results of an experimental growing of short-staple cotton on reclaimed lands, Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi directed the government to prepare a comprehensive assessment of the experience to study the viability of expanding its cultivation in the future. The pilot project took place in New Valley's Sharq Al Owaynat.
The president convened the meeting with Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouli, minister of public enterprise Hisham Tawfik, minister of agriculture and land reclamation Al Sayed al-Qusair.

The attention to short-staple cotton is because of its high demand in the market, which makes growing it locally to fulfill factories' needs essential for reducing imports, and hence, demand on foreign currencies, according to Egyptian news media reports.
