From Lake Michigan to the Milky Way :

Charles and Ray Eames were a husband-wife design-duo who collaborated on a film project commissioned by IBM, titled "Powers of 10" :

“A film dealing with the relative size of things in the universe. And the effect of adding another zero.”

"Powers of 10" merged science with creative representation. The Eames' film blended themes of time and scale in a way that had never been so provocatively captured. The exploration of place and the boom of environmentalism in the 1970s transformed the 20th century. Space photography in the 60s and 70s gave us a humbling perspective that we had never had before.

For the first time in human history, we became visually conscious of our scale and by our place in the greater scheme of the cosmos. To borrow from the great Carl Sagan;

"To my mind, there is perhaps no better demonstration of the folly of human conceits than this distant image of our tiny world. To me, it underscores our responsibility to deal more kindly and compassionately with one another and to preserve and cherish that pale blue dot, the only home we’ve ever known.”

We have filled in quite a bit more information in that video since the 1970's :)

Hah, there's a lot of detailing that was definitely glossed over! The constant zooming helps.

Greetings, @voronoi! Love this post. Thanks!
