The Sun's umbral field is also weakening. The solar wind is less. When solar output slackens we become less protected from energies and high energy particles from outside the heliosphere. Increase in cosmic rays has been demonstrated to cause increased cloud cover.
I could go on, at length. This subject is larger and more complex, the more I look at it. There is evidence of energetic changes throughout the solar system, not just on Earth.
