The Kind of Officials Destroying the Philippines

in #corruption7 years ago

That is the chairman of the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board of the Philippines. The government agency tasked with regulating the transportation industry in the Philippines.

They have recently suspended two peer to peer transportation companies namely Grab and Uber. Grab's license was later reinstated but Uber has been shut down. The reasons according to the chairman are as follows:

a) They cause more traffic

But as you can see in the photo, they plan to solve Uber's absence by adding more taxis. So adding more taxis won't cause traffic? F*ck logic.

b) These peer to peer transport groups are less safe than taxis

So you're telling me that taxis that put a markup on their taxi meter and drive through parts of the city that no one knows of just to increase the fare a lot more is safer? Not to mention the fact that taxis in our country who pick up foreigners from airports scam them with 1000% increase in fare? I'm not kidding. A Php 300($6) ride from the airport will be Php 3000 ($60) to a foreigner. There are even rampant cases of a man hiding in the trunk of the taxi. This man will, later on, get inside the cab and rape or steal from the passenger.

How is this sh*t safer than companies that provide you a way to track your travel and tell you upfront exactly how much you would've to pay?

c) They "lost" their legal papers

Yup. Our highly esteemed government officials just happened to miraculously lose the license renewal papers of Grab and Uber. Out of the thousand transportation groups in the country, they just happened to lose those two. With no photocopy or scanned copies of the documents. Yeah, we totally believe your totally believable statement.

It is a shame, I have a lot of friends from there, and would like to visit one day.

If you do visit, be careful of the scammers in airports.
